Playdough Recipe:
2 Cups SR Flour
1 Cup Salt
1 tblsp Cream of Tartar
2 tblsp oil
2 cups water
Food Colouring

Mix together & stir over medium heat till mixture sticks together like dough. Knead for a few minutes till smooth. (Whilst cooking it goes through a stage of looking very UNlike playdough!)

Stores in the fridge (in bag in marg tub is good) for weeks.

I generally leave so called "messy play" to play school, my nerves just cant take paint pots in the house at the moment.
That glupe stuff is great because where he spilled some it had dried into powder which is easily hoovered up.
We have ventured into the world of chalks and crayons though..........full body armour and plastic shower curtains every where......
What is worrying is that i genuinely think that i enjoyed the gloop more than ds did!

Hope you enjoyed your gloop, it is my favourite thing ever, we play with it after dd has gone to bed. Dp tries to explain it too me but I would rather believe it is magic!

For a treat make it with custard powder, lovely smell and colour.

Also try adding implements such as spoons or sieves. Dd loves making patterns as it drops through a sieve.

is corn flour the same as plain flour? and if not will plain flour and water work to make gloop?

twinsetandpearls · 12/10/2005 12:45

I have never tried plain flour, don't think it will work as well as corn flour is a more efficient thickener when cooking.

Its all i've got in so i'll try it anyway and report back.

You really need cornflour for the magical effects. Normal flour and water just makes a paste/doughy mess.

With cornflour you can add different food colouring, then make patterns with fingers and forks. Ds loves me rolling it into a ball which i give him and it melts away in his hand. Great fun!

it will only last a day or two in an airtight container as it will start to smell and go solid................................believe me.!!!don't try it

It makes your hands soft as well, you can beautify while you play!
