Anytime I try to post a picture on Gumtree it says file not recognised, how can I change the file so I can post it on gumtree?

Sorry I kow this is meant to be a ebay thread, but thought some of you might be able to help?

the file is jpeg I think...

At the end of the file name it should say something like .jpg. if it is a jpeg.

Does the image open ok on your computer?

To change the file extension, the most stable way is to open the image in an image application and choose 'File' and 'save as' and then choose a new file extension e.g. .jpg.

In case it helps, Gumtree help states:
To add images/ photos:

  1. At the bottom of the posting description page, click on the button labeled 'Add/edit images'.
  2. Click on the 'browse' button to search your computer for the relevant image file
  3. Once an image is chosen (and the location of the image appears in the white box), click the 'upload' button. This is very important!
  4. Once the upload is complete (this may take a short time), you should be able to view this image on this page.
  5. You can repeat the process to add more images (remembering to click 'upload' each time)
  6. Once done click 'preview your ad'. If you are happy with your ad then click 'submit your ad'.

PLEASE NOTE: Once an ad is submitted with an image, you may not be able to view the image in your ad immediately, as it takes longer for the images to appear than the text. This is normal behaviour so please be patient and check your ad again after an hour or so – your image should then appear.

Hi Thank you for the reply. The file is saved as jpeg, bu I'm not sure what type of file gumtree is looking for.

Jpegs are a standard format, so Gumtree will be fine with that if it ends .jpg or presumably .jpeg.

Did you check that it opens on your computer ok before trying to upload it? Perhaps there is something wrong with the image. If it was in a different format previously and not correctly converted to jpeg, that might be why it is not recognised.

If you want to email it to me to take a look at and if possible to convert I am happy to try.
