eBay

Dispute with seller and PayPal

Sorry not completely relevant to ebay but....was a complete idiot and bought a pair of boots on a whim from a site that looked to be british (uk url). £50 so not cheap. Realised when they took ages to arrive that they were not coming from the UK! Long story short boots came from china. Completely shit quality and many features not as described eg meant to be a zipper so can't even get them on! Saw terrible reviews on trust pilot so opened paypal dispute straight away for refund. I explained that item was not as described and therefore seller should pay return postage which is around £50 to China.

PayPal has come back and said seller will refund if i pay return postage. I had explained why I felt this was not acceptable in my original claim and I also felt that as website purported to be UK based as a buyer I was not aware that returns are to be made to china.

Anyway PayPal has offered this as a fait a complit and I am unable to go back an argue this. I'm obviously not returning the boots at that cost. Feel let down by PayPal, angry at myself for not checking out the website before buying (usually meticulous) and at the seller for clearly ripping people off.

Can I get paypal to change their mind? Anyone had similar?

How did you pay?

If by card, then go to the card issuer and request a charge back. It's not straightforward, they'll want lots of details and require you prove that the item is Significantly Not As Described (SNAD).

If you didn't use a card to fund your Paypal payment then there's no way around it - check out Parcel2Go though for a slightly cheaper shipping option.

Can you go through eBay with the dispute rather than PayPal?

Are they a brand/label? If so report them as counterfeit. eBay should not ask you to send counterfeit goods back.

PayPals customer service is pretty terrible. Can you maybe try taking it to twitter and seeing if you can get anywhere with that?

Thanks everyone. No it was paypal not ebay and yes PayPal linked to my card. I've pushed paypal and they will refund some of the postage and also have me a voucher so actually I think I will cover my costs. I have to be honest that paypal have actually come through for me thankfully! Thanks for the comments.
