buyer messing me about re collection/ courier

I sold an item a week ago, it was listed as collection only - the buyer contacted me before the item ended asking if they could arrange a courier and I agreed. They won and paid instantly, they asked me to package the item in a certain way, but the courier arrived and refused to take the parcel because of the packaging. Buyer then said they would rearrange, I arranged for someone to be in all afternoon and no-one has turned up to collect. They are now saying they will be in touch tomorrow morning. I have wasted so much time already waiting in for collection and I'm wishing I could just refund their money and sell elsewhere, for cash, to someone who will come and collect in person. What do I do?!

Firstly Never accept PayPal for "collection only" items, and never let a buyer arrange a courier..... You're leaving yourself wide open to being scammed!

Refund the PayPal payment and tell the buyer they must collect in person within a week and pay cash. If they don't then go to the sales record, select report an unpaid item, and there will a link to cancel the purchase. Select there is an issue with the buyers address.

PS I find gumtree easier for items that are too large to easily post.
