eBay

Unpaid item case opened against me

Made a best offer on a skirt the other day, saw it was wrong fabric after placing order (more winter) tried to email seller and said could we cancel transaction (following eBay guidelines). I said I would pay for it if I had to but would prefer just to cancel. I have a 100% positive buying and selling record since 2005.

No communication from seller whatsoever but she opened an Unpaid Items Dispute against me.

I left her negative feedback after paying but stated why.

Opinions? If she'd emailed me I probably would have paid not been happy but just left ok feedback. I'm annoyed she just opened a case no dialogue whatsoever.

Seller was a bit hasty in going to a formal procedure. eBay always recommends informal comms first. Just shrug your shoulders and forget about.

What a nasty piece of work she is imo, most sellers would cancel and not involve ebay as we all make mistakes, just forget about her she can't leave you neg feedback as sellers can't neg buyers (can they ?).

According to her she had this set up automatically after she'd had a few people not pay... And she hadn't checked her messages which I'm a bit Hmm about.

I did send her an email before I paid asking why she'd done this and could she not have communicated with me but got a very stroppy email back from her complaining that I was emailing her and feigning innocence. She is now saying she'll see if she can cancel and is trying to sort out with EBay and I've said if she does this I will retract feedback but I don't believe her re the auto set up.

I suppose if it comes to it i'm left with a skirt I didn't really want and will have to eBay it.

Last year I did make a hasty mistake saw jumper wrong size (far too big!) but too late to cancel and I'd been away so I bit the bullet and paid.

Unpaid item cases can be opened automatically by ebay (but seller sets this up in advance eg after X amount of days open case - you can choose how many days - most people go for around 4 or maybe a week) It is probably true that this happened if seller didn't look at messages about cancellation.

It is possible to cancel a transaction after payment if item has not been sent yet. Hopefully you can do this and retract fb if that happens. There is a bit of fault both ways here.

The auto set up is in your settings. It is usually on by default and Ebay will open a case after a set time.
Ebay do say to check before you bid, and that it is a contract.

It is up to the seller if they want to be nice and let you cancel. I dont see how you can leave negative feedback as this is your fault, not the sellers.
Ebay may reverse that if she appeals.

Maybe you need to look into how Ebay works a bit more, and look at your own account settings to try to help you understand the system.

I agree with everyoneelsie really. You need to be sure before bidding or buying and it does cause a seller quite a bit of hassle when people do this. Yes mistakes can happen but I agree it is somewhat unfair to start negging sellers about this. Leaving a neg is quite a big deal on ebay. The non paying case thing is a default setting - yes they should have kept up with messages and sorted it but it does leave a seller having to sort out a cancellation, re list and re sell an item.

I wouldn't have left neg feedback. As a seller and buyer I get a lot of unpaid items. I'd be ok about it if someone changed their mind on a sale but it is a pain especially when you've had a series of unpaids! Getting a negative would really upset me as it wouldn't be my fault if someone changed their mind
