Anyone ever sold a snowbaord?

We need to sell DH's snowboard. I've tried Gumtree and local Facebook groups but no interest so I guess we'll have to go to ebay. Any tips? It's in a travel bag - would we need to package it additionally for courier transport? And does anyone have any recommendations for couriers to use?

Haven't sold a snowboard but I have sold the odd item which has been fairly bulky and heavy via ebay.

Firstly, do you have suitable packaging material such as bubble wrap. cardboard box etc ?

If so, partly wrap/box item and weigh to find out total weight.

Then find out if there is a myhermes or collect plus drop shop fairly near you or if they collect from your local area. Check their websites and set up an account - it costs nothing to set up an account.

The websites will show you how much courier delivery will be with/without signature but tracked all the way is best for an expensive item.

myhermes were a bit crap in the run up to Christmas but they haven't lost anything I've sent yet (200+ parcels in 6 months).

List item with the option of the courier (factoring in the charge plus packing materials you need to buy if you don't have already have enough stuff you can re-use) or local pick-up if your happy to have someone collect it (absolutely must be cash payment on collection though if you are allowing local pick-up).

Take plenty of photos including the travel bag and be honest about any imperfections/ wear and tear to minimise the risk of an "item not as described" claim by purchaser. Do close up photos of any such defects/flaws.

I'd recommend using a starting price of the minimum amount you'll be prepared to accept for it if you have one in mind.

Thanks fairisledog. Really helpful stuff about the couriers. I'm just at a bit of a loss as to how to package the thing - it its travel bag it's longer than 6ft, so no idea where I'd get either a box to fit it in or enough bubble wrap! This is why I really wanted it to go to someone local, but no joy there.

I sold a very large chlld's toy fire engine and managed to package it in bubble wrap taped all round it then used 3 cardboard boxes, one on each end and another in the middle with lots and lots of tape followed by an outer layer of strong bin bags on the outside, one on each end and taped together in the middle. You can often get cardboard boxes from supermarkets and undo them to wrap round the bubble wrapped snowboard before taping them together and adding the bin layers outer layer and loads more tape.

I had been hoarding packaging material in the loft for years however before I started clearing our house of outgrown toys/clothes using ebay.

I am less worried about the packaging coming adrift if I use loads and loads of strong parcel tape. I don't care how long it takes the recipient to cut it all open, not my problem.

I do factor in the cost of tape to my p&p price as I get through loads of it.

Having a courier's dropshop local to you makes it all very easy. I couldn't be arsed with trekking to the not so local post offices and queueing up all the time.

Any extra packaging like large amounts of tape and the the odd bit of bubble wrap I buy from ebay.

if you sell local just use facebook selling pages - and don't take paypal, cash only.

But if you are couriering then you will have to find a way of packing it up.
