When do you make a 2nd chance offer?

At what stage do you make a 2nd chance offer when the original buyer hasn't paid? I sold an item on Monday - now Thursday and no contact at all from the buyer despite my sending a couple of reminders. I will probably start off a non-payer dispute but is it ok to make a second chance offer to the 2nd person in line now or is it best to wait until the case has been concluded, by which time the 2nd person may have 'gone cold' and bought elsewhere?
