don't click on anything, or reply etc. Forward the whole thing to [email protected]. Don't write anything in it. just click forward at the top of outlook express and send it just as it is. Then delete it.

They will check it out and let you know.

and it could be a payment request, but if you're not expecting one then definitely don't reply or anything. Just forward it to the address I put.

perhaps just the person sent it to you by mistake.

Ok, I'd look in your paypal account and call them. They will be able to explain. It doesn't sound like spoof. Just maybe she had a problem with her account and couldn't take the payment, and now wants you to resend it?

You can call them anytime.

It will say in your paypal account the status of any payments you have made.

did you pay for an item but the seller didn't claim the payment so it was returned to you

And now the seller has sorted out her paypal account and is asking you to pay for the item?

Don't click on the paypal link in the email - type in into the address bar.

The easiest way of determining if a paypal email is geunine or not is to see if they address you by name. They should all start "Dear Your Name".

Report
LottieJenkins · 02/10/2011 11:04

It does say dear my name!

Yes, contact her but first contact paypal. Just ring them up. The number is on the contact us page and you get a web pin number to use.

They can probably clarify what is going on. It sounds like she had a claiming issue (probably nothing dodgy, just wrong account details or similar) and hasn't been able to access your original payment.

yes - contact the seller. They either gave you the wrong email address or they haven't set their paypal account up correctly to receive payments.

There will be a link for her to click in the original paypal payment email.

How can I tell if an email "from" paypal.com is actually FROM paypal.com? Do they always start with Dear firstname surname? I know when I sold something the emails I had from Paypal had green verified tick things in Hotmail, but I've had more since then that say Dear Chuff Muffin haven't.

I had my Paypal hacked last year (and I have NO idea how) so I'm a bit wary!

There's actually a tutorial on their website if you fancy having a look at that. I haven't - probably should.

I never click on anything, I always go to my account and sign in, and if it's for real it'll be in there too - I mean there will be a message the same as the email, for instance I had one about updating account info the other day, wasn't sure if it was genuine but there was no link in the email anyway.

I went into my account and it was flagged up as the page after I signed in, like before you proceed type of thing.

They only wanted to know if I was a personal or business seller anyway.
Sorry you got hacked, that's very bad luck.
