How long does it take the courts to process an initial application for divorce?

I have my divorce application form filled in and court fee, so everything is ready to go.
The gov website says that once the application is received "Your application will be checked. If it’s correct, you’ll be sent....... Blah blah....
..... Your husband or wife will be sent a copy of your application and an ‘acknowledgement of service' form."

Basically, I'm wondering if I did this today would he get this before Christmas or is it like everything else and could be ages? I'm just wondering whether to hold off until Jan, that's all, just to get Christmas over with first (and given that nothing else will happen before then anyway).

Everything takes ages. Ages and ages. This is my third Christmas of trying to get divorced. Do it now. Apparently after Christmas is really busy.

I filled mine out on Sept 7th, H received it on Oct 4th...... this is with SW Divorce Court, depends on where you’re filing it as some have a bigger back log than others, bet it feels good to have ready to go Tiddly Smile

At the moment things take forever. My husband is currently divorcing me and it has been probably around 6 months and the decree-nisi has not yet been issued. Because of backlogs it may well take a year; but I understand it does depend on the area you live in.

Tiddley can I ask have you done it all yourself online or did you get a solicitor to help with the application? Thanks.

Through solicitor @betty. Probably could have done it myself really and just used a solicitor for the bits I needed.

About a month I think to get it to him then a further 3 months for the decree nisi i think. With bradford courts.

From what I understand it depends on which court or divorce unit are issuing. If you phone the gov divorce line, they will generally advise you on processing times.
