deemed service

Hi All
Can anyone tell me what deemed service is?
My husband send me his divorce petition a while ago. I duly sent it to my solicitor to review and send on. Heard nothing more so didn't worry about it. Thought I'd hear something eventually.
next thing I know i have an extremely snotty letter from my ex saying the petition was never returned from my solicitor and my ex has now instigated something called deemed service.
My solicitor has been snotty about my case from the very beginning saying he normally takes on only high cost cases, mine was fairly low cost but he was recommended to me by my sisters lawyer friend. he did however agree to take on my case.
Now it turns out my solicitor did nothing with the petition I sent him and didn't contact me further so my ex has now done this deemed service thing.
What is it, is it going to cost me money? I think I should get another solicitor as this one clearly doesn't give a shit about my divorce.
i have no idea what to do next am ill and have no money.
I'm really struggling.
My ex is being a total bullying shit too and I feel I'm having a breakdown.
