So I've sent my petition to the courts, now what?

The courts have received my petition, I can see that as I sent it 'signed for', how do I know when they've sent it on? How do you know if it needs to be chased? Is it just a waiting game??

I had a letter to say when they'd sent the copy of the petition to my ex. He then had a certain amount of time to respond and I then got another letter confirming that he'd sent it back. My nisi took a while as I'm going through BSE divorce centre and they're very busy and have backlogs. I can send my application for my absolute in next week!! So what I'm trying to say is that it can depend where you've sent it as to how soon you'll hear anything but you will hear something!!

same as above - received a letter 3 days after submitting petition to say it had been sent to respondent and they had 14 days to respond. Once they did we were sent a copy of the 'acknowledgement of service' that the respondent had filled in and a form to apply for nisi. Sent all that back and within a week got the letter saying the judge had approved it and the date for the nisi being declared which is this month! Whole process began Nov 3rd and absolute can be applied for end of Feb :) that was all using east midlands divorce unit who have been brilliant

Shoeaddict I wish I'd been able to use EM's - technically I am in the EM's but my postcode allocation was BSE !! I started mine in July and even though it's straightforward I can only apply for my absolute next week..... cannot bloody wait Grin

eeek must be exciting for it to finally be at that stage!
have to say they were brilliant, really fast and answered loads of queries on the phone which helped avoid use of solicitors as it was a straightforward dvce based on 2 year split.
Hopefully get your confirmation of absolute through before the end of Jan then! Grin

Oh wow yours all sound really positive experiences! I called the divorce centre today and a recorded message said they were busy and all paperwork is taking 25-30 days to process, I hope that isn't how long they'll take to send the petition out! I've emailed now to see if they say anything different...

Sent petition in October, rang early December to see if ex had sent it back yet, he hadnt, but they have a 6 week backlog so said if he sent it they'd still process it. He's sent it in now and I'm waiting for a response now, which probably wont come until the end of this month Angry. This is BSE. They were very helpful over the phone though.
