First Signs

Hi, can anyone tell me if not talking / losing interest in socialising can be one of the first signs of dementia? Really worried as this person is usually sociable and talks to friends and family (in person but over facetime since CV) a lot - they got sick recently and over the past few weeks has suddenly changed his personality. They have risk factors for vascular dementia but unsure if GPs would be interested if there’s no memory loss yet.

Could it be depression or other mental health concern?

I don’t know. It seems so sudden for it to be depression or anxiety. He literally stopped talking overnight.

Most people relate dementia as coming on slowly too. Were they in hospital? That can bring on sudden confusion. ut my first guess (I am not a doctor) would be depression as a result of the illness ... rather like you get after a bout of flu.

A sudden change of personality would be something to talk to the GP about - I'd suggest you arrange an appointment, and try to stop worrying about what it might be.
