Is that tax credits? It's not much!

MissMogwi Thu 31-May-12 20:35:24

What about child benefit/income support?

Olympia2012 Thu 31-May-12 20:36:15

No, think there's a partner and one child

TooManyOddSocks Thu 31-May-12 20:36:58

Maintenance? Does your DP bring money in? Think you need to list all your incomings and all your outgoings so people can help you in the best way.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 31-May-12 20:38:35

Stranded, chuck. Have you asked the Uni for some financial help? What is DP bringing in?

As a loan parent you should be able to get IS over the summer.

you should check that out.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 31-May-12 20:42:14

Go and see the bloke (the one with the brown beard, Paul I think) in the student support centre. He's fab! You can't live off that. IIRC, you can get income support during the university holidays (unless they have changed the rules).

As you have a child under 5, you could claim income support for the summer. Have to live alone obviously.

I didn't think this was correct but two of my fellow students have just signed on. They have to tell DWP when they start uni in Sept then it stops.

Have a look on Direct.gov.

HRHBumpingFuglies Thu 31-May-12 20:45:47

Stranded, Pm me all your income and all your outgoings. I'll do you a simple spreadsheet (I use it myself)

MissMogwi Thu 31-May-12 20:46:09

Sorry massive x post!

TooManyOddSocks Thu 31-May-12 20:47:16

Go to the CSA so that your maintenance payments can be calculated and you know what you will get and how regularly.
Can your DP contribute? I know you said he is working away but as he is your partner and you want to build a life together then surely he won't see you go without.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 31-May-12 20:48:31

Seriously, stranded. Go and sort the income support out. The uni breaks up for the summer tomorrow so you'll be eligible. You have to sort this out though, they won't know if you don't tell them. In the mean time, go and see Paul. He'll give you some Somerfield vouchers so that you can get some food. Take a mini statement with you. smile

Why is your maintenance so hit and miss?

HB don't know all of the rules regarding IS. You're better off going to the CAB as sometimes the benefits people also don't have a clue.

Maintenances are often hit and miss because lone parents are reliant upon their ex's to pay them on time. Ex's have generally shown that they are shit. I'm currently sitting here and worrying because I've no idea whether my ex will pay ds's money tomorrow.
