Writers in Scotland

I'm applying for this, it's bloody terrifying, especially as I put in so much and got turned down the past three years and I am planning to put in even more of myself - my time, energy, skill.

I was wondering if anyone else fancied applying and talking about the process, just so its less scary?

I applied years ago but think the whole Creative Scotland has changed so much (was Scottish Arts Council when I did it). I have applied for something recently with them that I could have done in my sleep and didn't even get shortlisted. I was warned by people in advance that I wouldn't get anywhere, but still thought it was worth a go. They then got back to me to suggest something else, and I thought that, because they had suggested it, I would have more of a chance, but again, not even shortlisted.

I don't mean to be so negative - and this is a completely different thing - but they do face a lot of accusations these days about having a very narrow focus and having their favourites (whether writers or locations or approaches).

I think you are right - it is very scary to put yourself out there (and, to be honest, I wish I'd never applied for the two I mentioned), but only you'll know if it's worth the chance.

Good luck!

Actually, I've remembered another one I went for and they rejected me for that as they said I was too focused on publication and making it a success.

Not even joking Hmm . . .
