And I see he tweeted yesterday, as you'd expect, and someone commented about the garda station..

Do ye know who it is?

I've only heard a rumour about one person, but I'm always the last to hear these things. The person I've heard about doesn't seem to be coming out in his own defense though, which I would have thought he would if he felt himself to be an aggrieved party, given his public persona..

Which sport is he known for?

honeyrider yes we had a very good idea, he's a notorious sports 'star' . I didn't get a deletion message last time but it might have fallen off my 'threads I'm on' cliff.. there was a report that the alleged victim was beaten badly and that she was too frightened/threatened to go through with a charge which is why my ears pricked up yesterday. If he did this I hope to god they get him.

Yeah that's the person I've seen mentioned.

I've heard a name and lots of speculation.

Fight or flight. Wink

jed I've reported your post - that is a horribly detailed and crass description of a rape. The victim doesn't need that plastered over the internet.

The “sportsman” mentioned was questioned & then spent the night in Dublin on a bender. There’s a video of him leaving a block of flats the next morning doing the rounds

Glad he was arrested. Does that mean the alleged victim made a statement? I know there was talk when it first broke that he couldn’t be spoken to unless the alleged victim made a statement but obviously with their family being threatened that was unlikely.

The alleged victim made a statement.

Well, we called it when it was first rumoured didn’t we?

I saw a one-liner detailing the allegation and it made me feel sick.

There’s also been some WhatsApp screenshots doing the rounds, which people are pointing to as further evidence to his dreadful behaviour.

I just feel sorry for his partner and kids.

Thanks honey. Well im not holding out much hope at all of justice being done in this case but good for her for deciding to do it. Very brave.

We had better be very careful what we write.
We wouldn't want anyone getting off on a rape charge because they couldn't get a fair trial as they were named on Mumsnet.

Yep. Agreed.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 24/01/2019 21:55

Agreed bean

I don’t think we even need to hint, never mind name names at this stage- everyone already knows.

It’s the worst kept secret in the country.

Huge kudos to the victim for making a statement. Appalling to be a victim of rape under any circumstances but the risk of being named and ripped apart on social media must be terrifying.

This guy seems to think he is completely above the law. I hope he gets a fair trial so there will be no equivocation about verdict.
I hope the media are very careful about reporting this so there's no opportunity for him to use that as a loophole.

honeyrider · 25/01/2019 15:10

Well I hope some of you are not on a jury going by some posts here who have your mind made up that he's guilty, for all any of us know he may be the victim of someone with her eyes on €€€€. It wouldn't be the first time.

If he's found guilty then I hope he has the book thrown at him and his partner shows him the door.

Indeed penny. Predictable as ever. And only ever happens with sex crimes.
