Hi
Does anyone live or know much about Westport and surrounding villages please? My husband and I are considering moving over from the uk (he’s Irish and desperate to come home) He has family within Mayo, but within a much more remote area and we are considering Westport as we both loved it on visits and it feels like a compromise and a safer option than going from big uk city to tiny remote village in one big jump..!
Finding it hard to find info about which are the nice areas and schools etc, is it family friendly, enough to do as a sahm for awhile?
We are going over next month so any pointers would be great please!

Lots to do. Good schools. Great scenery. Fairly busy town.

It's a nice place. It would be a bit on the remote side for me as a place to live, as in too far from any of the major cities & without good motorway links, but it's a lovely place to visit.

Lovely town. No motorway links but a train station and only an hour (if even) from Galway. I wish I lived in Westport!

We have recently moved from London to Westport. We live in town - rents are pricey compared to neighbouring towns (such as Castlebar or Newport) and the weekends can be noisy - loads of weddings, hen and stag parties. There is a great buzz about the place and loads on. Really family friendly (as long as you don’t mind the pissed people staggering round). The children have settled really well. PM me if there is anything specific.
