Where to buy wooden flooring?

It's great that there's an Irish section now!

I need to buy wooden floors for a new build house. I'm looking for solid or engineered for the hall and kitchen and sitting room and probably laminate for the bedrooms. When we were doing our budget, we budgeted 40 euro a square metre but I wonder was that realistic. Has anyone bought flooring recently and would you recommend it? We really need to come in on budget because we've already spent the contingency when we hit rock digging our foundations!

The house is in Munster but we'd travel to save money. We live in Dublin.

A friend got very nice flooring in Mulveys in Dundrum last year. She had a bigger budget (I think €70sqm) but said they have a very good selection and great advice.

Do you have B&Q? I just bought some lovely walnut high gloss laminate there (dolce something ) it was £16 per square metre

We got all our flooring from Wilson's Yard. Still holding up well after seven years and three DC ! It was reclaimed (although resawn so looked new) but I think they do new also. They're near Newy and with the current exchange rate might be good value.

There is a fantastic place in the Sandyford industrial estate they have a sublime selection, Ill have to dig out the name for you.

You'll find in new builds, you may well be better off carpeting the bedrooms, other wise the noise travels badly. Also dust issues.

I say this as someone who has hard wood floors in multiple of my own new builds, Id not do it again. Yes, living room not bedrooms.

Thanks for the suggestions. Another place I'd forgotten was Irwins of Castleblaney

We'll most likely have wooden floors everywhere despite the noise but I'll put rugs down to quieten the noise.

I just bought 28 square metres of solid oak on done deal for 500euro so that's my bedroom done!

Great, lilac, the new house is not far from Killarney so that's really handy.
