Covid

Confused about track & Trace

Ok - So apologies for seeming simple here.... DC has tonight been contacted by the covid app??? I didn't even know they had the app! My own app hasn't worked for a couple of weeks - just blue blank screen. DC hasn't been anywhere except school & immediate friend group are all well, no notifications in their apps.

I work in a hospital, & have been told to turn off contact tracing when I get to work. I am just confused wondering if it could be a mistake? We will obviously do the right thing, but feels weird with no credible information. For example DC travels to school by bus but wears a mask & I know is diligent about sanitisation.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Maybe it was someone on the bus that has tested positive?

Yes maybe... but this seems pointless as at work we are told because we are all wearing masks there's no need to SI if one of us goes down, & everyone on the bus is only allowed on if wearing a mask?? The only real exposure could have come from school but all friends in the bubble are fine.

Could it be mobile phone data from neighbours houses even though we have no contact with them. I really don't know how this thing works.

TIA

Almost certainly someone on the bus and masks don't negate the need for isolation except in a limited number of medical settings (because in reality the vast majority of people in settings such as public transport don't wear them properly).

He may not have been two metres from the person on the bus though. You need masks and social distancing. Also maybe it was someone exempt, maybe the driver didn’t enforce everyone to wear a mask, maybe it’s a dinner lady and the rest of the bubble brought their own lunch. Really there are so many things it could be.

It could be from school and may not be from a friend as it could be anyone he had close enough contact with. If he only just got notified then sounds like they've only just input their positive test result and the school won't know yet

The app cant tell if people are wearing masks etc, all it knows is that your child was close to the person who tested positive. Howevet he app is flawed and from what I've heard from people i know who have been notified of it, is that its reaching people outwith 2 metres. Bluetooth can reach pretty far.

Thank you all for your replies - I agree, probably the bus to blame here.

I just wondered has anyone been told to isolate by track & trace & then developed symptoms? The point I overlooked here is that we may very well have covid in the house now... I asked DC if they are worried & apparently not. I'm not feeling great. It's hard when you don't know the details of the exposure to assess the risk yourself.

Thanks again!

So it’s more than one child who hotbed the notification? It hasn’t to be somewhere they both went at the same time then? They need to isolate but you don’t need to x

Sorry have just realised that your app isn’t working so it could have been somewhere you've all been togetherness x

And this is a major flaw in the app. It's inaccurate and can't be relied upon.

It's likely to be the bus, it could be a person in a car that was very near the bus. It could be a teacher at the school, it could be he stood next to someone in car that later tested positive, it could even be a neighbour. Nobody flipping knows
