Covid

Couple of questions on my mind

Just interested to see what others think really, and to hear viewpoints. Please correct me if you think i'm wrong, just looking for sensible civilised discussion.

  1. People also spread the flu every year. Most people don't bat an eyelid at this. However, Covid spreaders (I know it isn't the flu) are seen as scum, selfish, irresponsible idiots who don't care about others.

  1. We must save people from Covid at all costs, is what we're told. Yet each year, we allow people to die from poverty and a lot of people don't do anything to help those in need.

  1. Why are we in a situation where every year, and not just this year, the NHS is almost at full capacity in winter ? Why is money not put into increasing ICU capacity as it is in Germany ?

Couid you give your own view on 1,2 and 3?

Those are my views really,
1.I don't understand the whole shaming thing that comes with Covid. People who have tested positive it's because 'they have been irresponsible and selfish', yet many people have got it whilst following the rules, according to Mumsnet. It could be caught in the supermarket for example.

  1. Nothing more to add really

  1. Germany has many more ICU beds, and thus haven't needed to resort to the lockdown measures we have, and also have had fewer deaths.

People also spread the flu every year.

There's a vaccine for flu. A very small number of people die from flu.

We must save people from Covid at all costs

No, we're told that we don't want the NHS to be overrun, because the knock on effects of that would be catastrophic. Poverty is something Conservatives are happy to overlook, if they don't see it it doesn't exist.

Why are we in a situation where every year, and not just this year, the NHS is almost at full capacity in winter

Lack of investment, lack of staffing because people don't want to work in the NHS due to pay, working conditions etc. See above.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Although we do have a vaccine for flu which I suppose stops it from being as bad as it could be.

These lockdowns do raise all sorts of ethical questions about other things in my view.

You'll be shot to pieces on here though mumsnet is full of lockdown fanatics.

True about the flu vaccine, though its efficacy is questionable.

  1. People who go on holiday during this are 'selfish and irresponsible'. So all people writing this have not left the house since March ? Because going anywhere carries risk.

I am angry that many people in our country are suffering because of NHS conditions, mainly lack of investment.

Well, personally I think it's horribly selfish to go out spreading any disease. Public transport in London is hideous in the winter with everyone hacking up a lung and sneezing. Hopefully covid will change the presenteeism culture in this country and people will stop spreading their germs about.

Jesus Christ.

Why can't people just post on the eleventy billion threads already discussing these topics. Why do they feel it's necessary to start yet another one so they can be the OP

ARGHHHHHHHHHH

I think it's incredibly rude 'I can't be bothered engaging in these discussions, I just want you to spoon feed me as though I'm the first person to have thought of this particular angle'.

You are right in that things like hand sanitising and increased hand washing are hopefully hear to stay.
