PLAYGROUNDS??

Can't see anywhere on the news about playgrounds/play parks closing or remaining open during this 4 week lockdown.

Does anyone know? I'll really struggle if they close again. I'm SAHM to two toddlers and will rip my hair out by the end of this lockdown. The first one was hard enough but even then we had nice weather at least.

Praise be! Thank you! What a bloody relief. We live next to a few good playgrounds so that helps enormously Smile

And the weather looks nice next week too. Make the most of the sunshine!!!

I doubt they'll close them again. Closing playgrounds was bloody stupid. They are outdoors and the virus doesn't last that long in sunlight.

I think outdoor recreation is "encouraged" so presumably walking can be more than twice a day this time and playgrounds are permitted, but I guess we'll have a gov list on Weds?

Oh, if I'd read the thread properly I'd have seen there is already a gov page on it!

I'd hope not, since it would be totally counterproductive. We need as many outdoor facilities and spaces open as possible, in the hope that people will use them instead of socialising inside.

I agree with Orcus.

If they want to increase the chances of people complying with the rules that really matter, like not meeting indoors, they need to expressly state that outdoor exercise is OK and that travelling a short distance for outdoor exercise is also OK. Last time, they fudged this last aspect and people were harassed for driving a couple of miles for a walk away from a busy built-up area. Then after a few weeks, our local council reopened all the countryside car parks and said they had made a mistake and they should never have shut them in the first place.

The guidance says playgrounds can remain open, so that's good.
