Traveling to Scotland for a funeral?

My husband's father died last week and the funeral will most likely be next week. Assuming it's Thursday or after, can we travel from England to Scotland for the funeral does anyone know? I assume some hotels will be open as we'll need to stay over.

No answer for you but I have a similar dilemma. My mother in laws funeral mid November 4 hours drive away. No idea whether we’re allowed to go or not. It’s so unclear!

The gov.uk page suggests up to 30 for a funeral still, with SD etc, but is unclear re overnight stays except for work (I think it will be yes for a funeral though).

Thanks both. Still not sure what the rules will be but DH says he's definitely going to his own mother's funeral. I just need to know whether I'm going or not because I hardly ask my work for special leave to go and do something illegal!

Not in Scotland but my father died suddenly last week and we haven't yet been able to organise the funeral due to post mortem etc, and we would hope to have family come from other areas. How did it work during the first lockdown, does anyone know?

Just make your own risk assessment and do what you feel is safe.

WWBD? Would Boris travel to a family funeral? Course he would and his colleagues would feign outrage at any attempt to criticise it.

You can cite: essential travel, travel to provide care, funerals permitted, attendees permitted and probably more. There are plenty of paragraphs which cover you off. Print them off, put them in plastic covers to show to anyone who gives you trouble unlikely and make the journey. Flowers

Scottish government has asked that no one travels between scotland and England.

I think the limit changes to 20 for funerals in Scotland tomorrow.

It would also depend on what level the area is in if hotels etc are open. From what I know level 3/4 have huge restrictions on hotels and restaurants etc.

The Scottish Government have asked that no one travels between Scotland and England except for essential purposes - it's not a blanket edict.

I would sincerely hope that attending a parent's funeral would be considered an essential purpose.

My cousin died of Covid in May - when only 12 people were allowed to go to the funeral

His father and sisters were allowed to travel 300 miles to go to the funeral and could stay in a hotel because it was for a funeral for immediate family

I’m fairly certain this would come under ‘essential travel’ - very sorry for your loss.
