Just wondering when people think public transport will be back for leisure purposes?
I don't drive and when we can finally visit/stay with family, I'd like to be able to do so but would need to use trains.

No one will ask you were you're going

I dont know officially, but I am planning a visit to my parents in four weeks time. I haven't seen them since 20 December and my son February half term.
I don't drive, we can do the trip in a day, just about avoiding commuter times. We will be meeting them in a park.

The railway line passes near my house, I see trains going past all the time virtually empty. We will pre book have electronic tickets, wear face masks and take any other precautions required. But unless lockdown is reinforced, we will be going.

@Ted27 I hope you enjoy the visit.

I'm happy to wait a bit, I know there's bigger issues going on but just wondering if there's been any indication of how long we'll be asked to avoid if at all possible.
I think my biggest concern is the children, 3 of them so couldn't even pretend it's anything other than leisure!

I’m concerned in general, if they’re only accepting 20% of passengers.

How would they know who needed priority, shopping or leisure?

I’m in lakes, worried I won’t get in and out of village and be stood in queues for hours.
Local services say only a few people can board a bus at any time, so I have no idea how it’s going to work.

It’s insane.
If we are being encouraged to work and return to some level of normality, they ought to have said, at least, only if you have a car.

Also, not sure about trains but there’s much more room for manoeuvre.
I think you’ll be ok if you can choose your preferred travel time.
You can check for off peak, etc. Pre book your ticket online.

Buses a whole other universe of madness though. I’m in a huff about it as you can tell 😁

We will, its my birthday ! We are only waiting as my parents are both 76 and asthmatic and I want them to be ok comimg out.

I honestly dont think there will be anyone interrogating you as to why you are travelling. The trainline website does not specify valid reasons for travel, just take precautions if you are.
If they are selling tickets for trains which are running, I dont see what the issue is.
The last couple of weeks me and my son have taken some short bus trips, again out of peak times, the bus driver didnt ask why we where travelling, he would have had an empty bus if we hadnt got on.

@Ted27 glad you’re having some positive bus travel!
Bit worried as I’m in a touristy place.
Not tried local services yet Was going to wait a while.
The closest big supermarket is a really long bike ride away with no cycle paths just a busy A road.

Obviously won’t order online as not vulnerable.
So sick of Tesco extra ☹️

@musicforsmorks

yes it must be so much more difficult in rural areas. The bus we have been using is the 'university' bus, which usually runs every 10 minutes. Even with a vastly reduced half hourly service, its still a good service without thousanda of students.
We haven't gone far - lack of public loos is a limiting factor !

@Musicforsmorks the buses sound dreadful Shock
And the train station is a bus ride away.. so if they only let 10 on we;d be taking 4 of those Confused
Some form of normality is needed here quickly for us non drivers!
