London - can anyone tell me what the tubes are like?

Specifically the northern line Old street - borough in the morning? But also other lines in the centre. I need to decide how/when to go back to the office. Are there long queues to get on? Are platforms crowded? Are the trains packed, empty or middling? I have looked on TFL and see the general advice on which stations are busiest but I would like more inside info!

Dirty, over crowded, smelly and hot.

My son went back to London yesterday as his tenancy ends next month and he needs to clear his stuff out and clean. He sent me a pic of an empty St Pancras (3pm on a Thursday) and said the tubes were eerily quiet and empty - he said he was expecting zombie's to attack him! Grin

I was in London this week, although not the Northern Line. All seemed very quiet and plenty of space to socially distance. I was quite surprised to be honest.

Thank you very much. I will go in next week and update - I am sure things will change a bit over the next month but the graphs in the government briefings still seem low so fingers crossed.

Empty. I travelled last weekend - not rush hour - and had a carriage to myself.

It depends on the time of the day. Rush hour is still crazy.

Things are rapidly changing though, things are getting busier. I'm right in the centre of town and it has been eerily quiet for weeks, no traffic, buses going by with no passengers, empty parking spots, no people other than the few locals who hadn't left before lockdown. The past week has been totally different, big groups cycling past on Boris Bikes, the public parking spots are full, people parked up playing music and eating takeaway in their cars, large groups shouting in the early hours of the morning.

One of my close friends is still going into Kings X north via Northern Line as she’s a key worker - she sent us all a pic of the station and tube last week and they were totally empty. That was slightly after rush hour but still! Obvs that’s just one anecdote but hope it helps! X

Taken on the Central line a couple of days ago, in the afternoon.

My ds is keyworker and uses the northern line, it is practically empty apparantly. He is going in later at moment but has done rush hour times too.

I suspect it will be busier from next week when some children start going back to school, and will get busier again when the shops start reopening.

Do you need to go back to the office? I usually work in London, travelling at rush hour on the tubes, but planning on staying at home as long as possible, since I can work from home.
