It's a Furlough one!

I work in a restaurant so obviously we're closed (well apart from takeaways that we offer at the weekend) and I've been furloughed. At the beginning of lockdown we were all asked to send an email to one of the managers stating that we would not undertake any work for the company whilst being paid furlough.

However I've been asked to go in today to do some cleaning and to water the plants. I'm happy to go in and do this (tbh it'll be a nice break away from the kids for a few hours ) but I was just wondering if this was allowed? I obviously don't want to shoot myself in the foot and get in trouble and risk having my furlough taken away (I know the odds of a government official walking past our pub whilst I'm in there cleaning are slim but just thought I'd check out the facts first)

It isn't allowed. You aren't supposed to do any work for your employer when you're on furlough.

I don't know how the government would find out though.

@mamabird201313 its not allowed, but if its a one off for a few hours i'd probably do it. Anything more and i think its reasonable to query this with them and explain its not permitted (as they know).

AFAIK you are not allowed to do any work that would provide services to or generate revenue for your employer.

Hmm so a bit of cleaning and watering plants.. I suppose technically is a service to your employer so no.
