Is anyone else struggling massively with getting their kids to do school work? My son is really struggling to do any work and doesn’t seem to understand any of it, he can’t do it independently because he won’t do it, I have to explain each and every question to him over and over again and he still doesn’t understand, he is 8.

Do you think he might do better with video lessons? It might be worth trying him with oak academy (free), as the teachers on there have recorded each lesson and explain each topic. He could do the work whilst watching the videos like he would do In a real classroom?

My 7yo can't focus. She knows what to do, but has convinced herself she can't do it. If she makes the slightest mistake, she gets upset. If I verbally ask her the questions, she can do it straight away. She can read the questions to me. She can explain the questions to me. She won't read a question and write/type an answer down.

She needs school... Apparently she's very focused there!

My 7 yo is the same. Struggling to focus and unable to sit down to do the work.

If I ask her to read a book with me says she can't do it, but plays BBC games like Worst Witch and reads that happily.

Definitely needs school to help but will have to keep muddling through.

Might also be worth trying education city...it's formatted to look more like games and has an animation after they answer each question. Will link the website below

Thanks for the comments, I’m glad to know it’s not just him then. He’s been given work by the school so they expect us to do the work given. He’s just really struggling that sometimes I’ve just let him not do it because it’s not worth the stress.

@PumpkinP it might be worth looking on the likes of oak academy or education city to see if they have any videos explaining topics that your son is being set by school. Even if he first does the oak academy worksheet, and then the school one, it might help him understand? :)
