How are your Y12s coping with this? Mine swings between "It's OK, I'm getting the hang of this" and tears of panic. Pretty much normal for her! But she's finding it more draining than all the independent stuff she's doing from the lesson plans emailed out by her teachers.

Right now the German teacher is going through the most recent assignments and they're all marking their own work together. I'm watching her hold back the tears while she tries to mark her work, completely unable to join in the general chit-chat. She's a very able student, so it's highly unlikely that her distress is due to errors.

I've tried and I've refused to do them. I bought a webcam and microphone as my school laptop didn't have working ones and spent ages filim extras before the lesson (me annotating and going over a gprah as there was no way of moving the camera around my office to my whiteboard). 4 students turned up for the lesson, had to be told to behave and stop swearing repeatedly, I told one boy to put a top on (rules issued by school). Out of the other 7 students who missed it (2 of them having parents demanding we live teach!) only 3 of them have actually accessed the recording. All in all it probably took about 4 hours of my time for the 1 hour lesson. I'll record clips and explanations but I'm not doing it live again.

Were those Y12s? Shock Appalling!

For any year group that would be appalling!

It's one of the reasons why most resaving unions advise against it @MaryBerrysBomberJacket . If your students were to download your video and add offensive content, then share - or if a student showed offensive material to the group - you could find yourself without union representation in court as you had used live stream against their advice. It's a safeguarding nightmare.

We have been asked multiple times to do it for Year 12 because of parents pretty much going apeshit, so I said I'd try it once. I do work at a rough school and this class (A level chemistry) has plenty of students in it that shouldn't be but parents are convinced their darlings are going to be doctors. Not with a grade 5 at GCSE or those attitudes!

I'm shocked and disgusted that teachers are disrespected in this way (though, sadly, not entirely surprised). But dd's classes are nothing like this. There appears to be mutual respect and dedication between all the participating students and the teachers.

I am asking how other Y12s are coping, and, I suppose, seeking advice how to support my dd.

There's no live streaming for my year 12 son. Not from school anyway, though he is having one to one lessons with a private tutor via Zoom for one of his subjects.
I have to admit that I am a bit worried about the lack of direct interaction with teachers because although he is very diligently doing the work that's set there have been a couple of occasions where he hasn't got something quite right near the beginning that has then led to the whole thing being wrong. That is pretty demoralising as well as being a waste of time. Unfortunately he is studying subjects that nobody else in the family did so we can't help.
I don't know what the answer is though, as my DS is very shy and quiet and would never ask a question on Zoom either. And I can quite understand why teachers aren't keen on the idea.
I don't think there really is an answer to be honest. I just hope they are able to get back to school safely in September.

Sorry OP, I realise my comments aren't actually helpful. But you aren't alone in being concerned.
