"Sorry if people feel there has been failings on PPE"

I can't believe the government's stance on this, the same line has been repeated by Alok Sharma on Andrew Marr this morning. I feel so angry.

I understand this is unprecedented, that so many more need PPE than a normal day at the office, but I feel this fits into the government's isolationist view that 'it won't get that bad here'.

I'm not on the front line, but my brother is a paramedic and bought his own PPE, my mum is a supervisor for a care company and has been delivering gloves and gowns to carers (and herself and she is also caring when people are sick) and this has been slow.

"Sorry not sorry"

I completely agree with you. Weasel words. So it's your fault if you feel a lack of ppe. Not that it's the reality that is a lack of ppe. The problem is your feelings and she is sorry you are a wuss. She is a total dickhead.

"sorry if... " is the least actual sorry there is.

Exactly, it's puts the onis on us not to 'feel' that way.

It’s appalling, patronising rubbish. I hope there’s a full investigation into the government’s response to this crisis in the future.

Seen elsewhere (I can take no credit) but it sums it up. It would be funny if it were so deadly serious that she tried to use the classic weasel apology that MN has nailed over the years ....

I'm sorry you feel I culled the elderly.

Yes. Dear NHS workers we are sorry if you think the pathetic little clinical masks (1 per shift) aren't enough when working in a hospital full of covid19 patients. Get well soon. Love, The Government Angry

In the news there are stories of nhs staff using cut up bin bags and shower curtains because there is no ppe. Using or reusing masks because there aren't any freah ones available.

But yes, sorry if people feel like there is a lack of ppe.

This "apology" has pissed me off more than if they hadn't bothered making one.

It feels like more of shrugging of shoulders and indifference by the government.

Oh goodness OP I just said the same thing to DH watching him on Andrew Marr. His constant ‘I’m sorry..’ was blood boiling

I can't even watch the video. Words fail me.
They should have been preparing in Jan / Feb!!
In fact, there were pandemic preparedness studies done which showed we were not prepared for a pandemic. They knew one was going to happen at some time in the future. And still they did nothing.
Even in Jan / Feb they did not prepare.
They don't even have any excuses, just basically a shrug.

I also watched that dick Matt Hancock say it has been agreed that medics should wear 1 gown per shift, instead of 1 per patient which seems fundamental in infection control. Not to mention him insinuating that PPE was not being used correctly, 'there is enough PPE if it is being used properly... Precious resource'. I am so upset about this.

Priti Patel is not sorry and has not apologised for anything here

Is it not people in the NHS who order and maintain stocks of PPE rather than the Government?
Would we blame the government if lorry drivers didn't have enough tyres?
