Have you got some strawberries that need disinfecting? Any berries or pre chopped fruit that you're not sure about?

Here's a quick and easy way if making sure you don't accidentally eat something riddled with COVID19:

Take your fruit, rinse it off, and add it to a large jar approx 1litre. Then, add 250g of sugar before pouring a litre of vodka over it. Close the jar. Shake it up until it's all mingled.

Store in a cupboard for a week, shaking it every day to make sure the sugar dissolves. After seven days, strain the fruit and pour the liquid into a sterilised glass bottle.

Enjoy your disinfected strawberries/berries/other fruit as desired.

Would it work with gin ? Asking for a friend 😀

vera99 Wed 08-Apr-20 19:55:04

I think you have been drinking your 'disinfected' fruit already.

Realitea Wed 08-Apr-20 19:56:57

Fruits ok if you just rinse under a tap I hope?

penisbeakers Wed 08-Apr-20 20:01:13

@thelittleredtoothbrush I have never tried it with gin but it's worth a shot, right?

Do you think this will work if I eat the fruit and then drink the vodka? It’ll disinfect within my tummy? 🤔

vodkaredbullgirl Wed 08-Apr-20 20:29:03

ooo vodka and strawberries

Fromthebirdsnest Wed 08-Apr-20 20:29:10

im disinfecting fruit with hand wash but this looks a better idea x

penisbeakers Wed 08-Apr-20 20:29:24

Mebbe. If you try it, let us know how you get on assuming you can type straight. 😎

Unsolicited, unprofessional medical advice! Dreadful.

It's vodka for berries, brandy for cherries, rum for tropical fruit and gin for my tummy. NHS advice, innit?

What will Baileys disinfect?

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff Wed 08-Apr-20 20:38:06

Teeth. @dbml

Baileys disinfects teeth.

I have a sparklingly beyoooootiful smile grin

LalalalalaLlama Wed 08-Apr-20 20:40:39

You forgot pimms for cucumber and apple! Vodka can be also used to disinfect tomatoes and celery if desperate.
Gin for citrus.

Raera Wed 08-Apr-20 20:48:10

Also works with rhubarb, I (had) lots in my garden

DBML Wed 08-Apr-20 20:53:07

Oh good! @AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff

Tooth disinfection is probably very important at the moment. I’ll continue.

Samtsirch Wed 08-Apr-20 20:59:15

I will be making sure I get my 5 a day after reading this 😂

Samtsirch Wed 08-Apr-20 21:00:06

As well as taking better care of my teeth 🤣

DBML Wed 08-Apr-20 21:04:28

We all have to play our part.

MrsTerryPratchett Wed 08-Apr-20 21:06:23

Baileys only works if iced and accompanied by chocolate. And Pimms! Controversial but I believe it also works for strawberries and mint.

BigChocFrenzy Wed 08-Apr-20 21:36:24

My farmshop down the road cuts out the work

and has produced a delicious strawberry fortified wine, ready to drink smile

< I live in a Rhine village, wine country. Hic >

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff Wed 08-Apr-20 22:04:52

Chocolate? Mais oui.

Pimms aussi.

Sorry for not specifying. I thought it went without saying.

The orange (for your vitamin c pleasure) in jaffacakes is practically sterile.

FYI you can also disinfect fresh herbs this way too - basil and mint vodka disinfection is extremely tasty. 🌿
