I work in Salford royal hospital and we've just turned our theatre suite into a bay of icu beds, our actual icu is full. We nearly filled our new icu too I cannot stress enough how much you all need to stay in and do all you can to stay inside and away from people.

We don't have enough ppe to go around, we're asking schools to use their science goggles and beauticians to use their masks. We don't have the staff.

We are bracing ourselves for worse because of people going out on Mother's Day. It's not a game and it's not a joke.

I attended ventilation training last week and we were told no one's family is allowed into ICU so that if we get a patient who is well enough for icu (to recover basically) and sick enough to need it, then they are to be advised to call family and tell them they're going to icu as they may not get the chance to say I love you later. This is like nothing I've ever experienced in 35 years of nursing.

Please please listen. I get it people don't want to stay in and everyone thinks their job is very important but it's not worth it. People are sadly dying alone in icu. Healthy fit people are destroyed by this disease. It's not the flu, it's not anything like swine flu.

One of the reasons Italy has such an incredibly high death rate is because people are turning up at hospitals desperately unwell and needing a ventilator and there isn't one. We don't want to get to that point but if people don't stop going out then we will get there.
