HCG levels rising after v. early miscarriage?

I should be 6 wks pregnant but early scan this wk (following conflicting pg tests by GP) showed nothing. Positive pregnancy test at clinic, so they took 2 blood tests 48 hrs apart. HCG looks like a 4 wk pregnancy in 1st one, second test showed that levels hadn't doubled in 48 hrs. Going in for 3rd blood test tomorrow to see if preg ongoing or being 'absorbed'. If this is mc, I'd really like it over with. Concerned after googling to find HCG levels can continue to rise after mc - am I in for another week or 2 of trips to the clinic before this is resolved? Maybe this sounds heartless, but I find the visits more upsetting than actually just having this resolved one way or another (clinic staff lovely, but it brings it all home to me somehow).

Could it be ectopic?

Sorry to hear that you are going through such a terrible time. I had a m/c in January at 9 weeks and when I had my bloods done they were very slightly less after 48 hours so it was pretty much a given, so any rise (particularly early on) is worth continuing the blood testing. As soon as you are far enough along for things to be visible on scans then these are more informative than blood testing. I understand that not knowing is very traumatic but nothing can change the outcome. Sometimes knowing how it is working out can help you prepare for the worst or let you begin to celebrate. I hope things are working out for you passdevino.

This sounds very similar to my ectopic last year. It's definitely worth going for the blood tests as I'm sure they will want to rule that out. Really hope you get this resolved.
