Every other day better during fertile days?

First proper month of trying after mmc in July. Had been planning on trying every other day from day 10 or so (29 day cycle)dh permitting , but have read something that says to try every day during fertile phase. Just wondered what the consensus was on this (if there was one!), Have read somewhere that sperm doesn't really survive that long to 'catch' the egg, but at the same time better to give the swimmers a day off to replenish. Me and dh are oldies (well, dh is 46, I'm 38)so am paranoid about old sperm/missing the egg. I have 3 dds already, so obviously it's worked before, but feeling extra anxious after mmc . Any advice would be gratefully received!

Hello!

i have Zita West Guide to pregnancy and she recommends trying as much as possible!! apparantly its a myth that too much weakens the sperm!! She advises that if it released regulalry it becomes stale and lazy - hope this helps!! Saying that DH permitting i know what you mean - this month DH got a bit fed up with me!!

Sperm can also last up to 7 days if the conditions are right, but on average between 2-36 days i think.

xx

Not sure that it matters unless there is a sperm count prob - which it doesn't sound like there is seeing as you have 3 dd's!!!!
With ds we went for it every day. This time round (39wks eek!) we did it every other day. I personally wouldn't leave it any longer than every other day though.
Sorry to hear about your mmc and hope you get a bfp soon.

Thanks! I may get that Zita West book WISHING. It's amazing all the different theories out there - I think too as BUTTERCUP says that the every other day thing may be to guard against sperm count problems, think I may have read that somewhere. Have got pre-seed to try this month too, to help any lazy ones there, but then I get paranoid thinking do I want lazy ones fertilising my egg anyway . My problem is thinking too much I think!

Think I'm going to order that book - I'm alreadt taking the posh Zita West supplements, so may as well go the full hog. Have been reading Dr Marilyn Glenville's 'Getting Better Faster', but it's a bit full on!

the more often you have sex the more sperm there are to try to catch the egg imhV!!

You can have sex every day during the fertile period, if you're both up for it! You don't need to 'save up' for ovulation. Look for the egg-white cervical mucus and go for it, that's your body telling you you're fertile.

Thanks Anna & now, wasn't intending to 'save up' for ovulation as such, more doing it every other day from about day 10 to 20 or so - along the lines of the theory that it's best to have a day off to conserve swimmers, plus every other day means they may be ready and waiting anyway? On the other hand, it would be hard to wait an extra day after getting a positive on the opk if that day happended to be an 'other' day iyswim!

Yes, if you get a +ve on the OPK and you'd already BD'd the day before I would certainly go again. The more chances the better.
