Hi ladies

I have been ttc for almost a year now. I’ve had 2 early mc and after my last one I joined the gym and have lost 1st4lb since September. I know if I go to my GP they are just going to tell me I’m overweight and I know if I go see anyone else it’s the first thing they’ll tell me ☹️

Anyone know of any good news stories to give me hope? It can’t all be down to my weight I know larger girls with babies.

I had a BMI nearly 50 and went to the doctors after a year TTC. They did tests but said I couldn't get any help (ivf etc.) unless my BMI was under 30. I had struggled to lose weight all of my life so was already under weight management. Have since had gastric bypass and lost 11st. I am now 11 weeks pregnant naturally.

OP are you overweight or obese? They won't give you IVF unless your bmi is under 30 but it shouldn't stop them from doing all the preliminary tests before you get to the fertility clinic referral stage.

Sounds like you've done a great job so far in losing weight though, well done!

My mum had a BMI of over 35 - got pregnant straight away with both children and no complications at all - both even arrived on their due date.

So it's not impossible. lots of larger ladies do go on to have children. But there are additional risks.

FYI NHS may not fund IVF for a BMI over 30 but most IVF clinics will do private for BMIs for 35 and over.

Thank you everyone that’s some really helpful information. My BMI is over 35 so I’ve a bit more work to do but hopefully it won’t be impossible. It’s hard to lose weight when you feel so down.
