Does age matter?

Me and my boyfriend are trying for a baby. We're on month 4 of trying after stopping taking the pill for about 8 years

I am 24 and my boyfriend is 37, we are both non smokers, very active and more often than not have a good diet

Can anyone settle my mind, I know at that age it can be harder to conceive and I was reading online that if you're both 40 or over there's a higher chance of birth defects or things like Down syndrome, I'm hoping me being the age I am it may reduce the chances of anything like this happening, if anyone can let me know if they know I would really appreciate it xxx

I think it's more on the woman's side, the closer to 40 then the harder it gets because of egg quality. A man's semen quality will start to decline though I'm not sure what age. You've got a good chance but it's still normal for it to take up to a year at your age.

I agree with the PP, the mother's age plays a much bigger role in fertility and any genetic defects than the man's age. TTC and pregnancy is always a dice roll though, you never know what you're going to get, so other than trying to make sure you're healthy it's probably best not to spend too much time thinking about it.

Good luck with everything.
