Conception

Sperm quality and increasing chances

This may seem like a silly question, but I am curious, if someone does not have great sperm quality or perhaps not many swimmers....does having sex more frequently increase your chances of conceiving? For example dtd every other day the Fertile week versus just once....this would allow more opportunity for a sperm to meet the egg?

I suspect my dh has some sort of issue with his sperm quality and hoping he will get it checked, due to some medication he took (known to effect sperm quality in men). We only ever dtd one time each cycle we try (the medication effected his sex drive as well). So I am wondering if we perhaps increase the times it might help us.

I would presume that dtd multiple times will increase the probability of becoming pregnant. Dtd once only leaves you with one chance to conceive.

Actually having sex every day is bad for men who have sperm quality issues?

Every other day is recommended to give his swimmers chance to build up.

I had the same issue with my DH - taking an anti depressant he swore wouldn't affect his fertility.....all the tests said otherwise.
He takes pregnacare pre conception vitamins (we both do) and actually the last set of tests showed things much better although he is off his medication now. X

Echo the pp. My dh has low sperm count and some other issues and we make sure it’s every two to three days so the sperm supplies can replenish. If you can pinpoint ovulation this is really helpful- it’s important to dtd the day before the egg is released. But every other day is what you need to aim for. I’d also advise he cuts back on alcohol and caffeine and doesn’t smoke. The wellman vitamins are also good (zinc is particularly good to boost sperm). First and foremost he needs a sperm test!

Thanks all, we are taking vitamins, but need to make sure he takes them more regularly....as he forgets sometimes. Will also try to get him to reduce his coffee! And dtd every other day during the fertile time (or at least try to!)
