Best time of day for OPK's

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on TTC next month after stopping the mini pill at the end of December. I want to have a full cycle of tracking using BBT and OPK's but I just have a couple of questions about the latter.
I just have the cheap OPK tests that came with my BabyMad thermometer and they advise the best time to test is between 2-4 with room temperature urine after not drinking for a couple of hours. That's fine on my days off but I work shifts and nights !
Do people on here find their results vary depending on the time? For example if I was on night shift and took one before I went to sleep in the morning the would that be okay?
Thanks in advance for answers! Smile

I'm sure it varies for everyone but I've never had a positive opk with fmu. Usually midday or sometimes even right before bed time. The surge can last as little as six hours, although on average about 12-24 hours. So if you don't want to miss it, test accordingly. Usually if you get an almost positive, that's when you want to start testing more frequently.

Each brand of opk is different - follow the instructions.

I tested 4 times a day because I was crazy. First thing in the morning and again in the evening- these were never positive. Mid morning and mid afternoon were when I got positive results. I would continue testing after my positive and it was always gone again by the evening. Everyone is different but the usual pattern is for the surge to happen mid to late morning time then last a varying amount of time. Mine was just really short and easy to miss.

I used to just test twice daily. Often I would have missed it if I hadn't.

Thank you so much everyone!
This is my first cycle using them so I thought I would start early (cycle day 10) just in case although I know I'm definitely not ovulating at the moment.
Going off my last cycle, I think I'll ovulate this weekend/Monday/Tuesday and I'm not working nights then so I will take all your advice, do multiple and hopefully catch my surge. Thanks again!
