What can GPs do if you're struggling to conceive?

We've been trying for nearly a year now for our second baby and I got my period-well the first signs of it, and the usual BFN this morning.
I had an ectopic pregnancy and had a tube removed at the start of the year and there hasn't been a sniff of a positive test since.

My partner doesn't want any more after he turns 40 which gives us another 7 months to fall on. How can a gp help in my situation? I've got records of all my ovulation and BBT and I've been doing all the OPKs and shagging at the right times yadda yadda so I think medical intervention might be the next step, I don't want to miss my chance by just waiting and hoping.
I'm 32 and conceiving our first and the ectopic was very quick.

Anyone been in a similar boat? Any success stories? X

They can give you blood tests and an ultrasound to check for PCOS and refer you to fertility clinic for investigations (depends on your area as to how long it takes) but any treatment like ivf you would obviously have to pay privately for.
Sorry to hear about your ectopic :(

Unfortunately they may not be willing to do a lot if you haven’t been trying for two years.

I'm in the same position. Got one child and we've been trying for the second for 3 years now. On Nov 30th it will be exactly 1 year since my ectopic (right tube removed).

I was told at the hospital that if I hadn't conceived after a year, I should come back for further tests etc. So although we've been trying for much longer than that one year they always talk about, they said we should give it a full year after the ectopic 😩

Looks like AF has arrived today... So I'm going to book an appointment for consultation soon.

When we were trying for our first - after 1 year had passed I visited the GP and was referred for blood tests and DH was referred for a sperm test. After bloods I was sent for an internal scan and then would've been a laparoscopy but luckily we got pregnant before that point. So I would go and see your GP now. I'm not sure if it differs with it being your second or the area you're in but best to go and see what they will do for you. Can't hurt to ask and get the ball rolling x

We've been trying to conceive our second for just over a year. I'm over 35, so went to GP after about 7 months. I had bloods and scan for PCOS. DH was sent for semen analysis. All came back in normal range so we got referred to fertility clinic.

Just had appointments through after a bit of a wait and they want to do new bloods, scan and semen analysis, so just waiting for those.

Thanks everybody. I'm going to book an appointment after my period and see if they'll have a look at my ectopic operation notes and what not, hopefully they'll have a snoop around and find it's something simple or sods law will kick in and I'll fall on anyway. It's good to hear other people's stories -good and bad so thanks for sharing xxx
