Conception

Life span of sperm?

For reasons that are a bit odd and definitely identifying, I am currently waiting to O (hopefully tonight) with a soft cup (menstrual cup that sits tight to cervix) full of conceive plus and DH's sperm inside me.

How long do you think the sperm will live in these conditions? I feel like an incubator.

I know this weird. Please don't judge. I am desperate.

Up to 5 days in ideal conditions is what I'm told.

Up to 5 days. But once you ovulate, the egg ceases to be viable after just 12 hours. So the 5 day thing is more helpful if you are having sex in the lead up to ovulation.

why would we judge? I'm a bit confused about that part. What's conceive plus?

Working bling I guess I just feel even I'm getting a bit crazy with desperation and others might think my 'plan' is a bit odd?
Anyway, thanks for the replies x

(conceive plus is a sperm friendly lubricant that emulates the properties of cervical mucus...)

Aah, okay. Well, good luck! If it doesn't happen this month, definitely try a few days ahead of time too so that the sperm can hang around in preparation! I'm pretty sure that for both of my DC that's what happened.

Working - thanks- this is our absolute last chance of conception for six months, so fingers crossed.

I've kept the cup in for the lead up to o as you say. Thanks for the reply!

They wouldn't live there for that long. I'd also be careful to have the lubricant inside you at body temperature. If you were to put sperms into room temperature lubricant, it'd probably kill them off very quickly.

Inside you, they take from less than 1h and up to a few hours to get to the egg. The 'up to five days' is when some particularly strong ones attached themselves to the walls of fallopian tubes. That gives them energy and keeps them going for longer.

Hmm well that's not good news...although the lubricant was inside me, then the sperm and then the cup to seal it all in Hmm

I know it's a long shot but I'm practically elderly and then for medical reasons we can't have another shot for 6 mths.

Clutching at straws, I know.

This is exactly how I'm doing it (I'm in a same sex relationship) and I tend to put the conceive plus in first for it to warm up to body temperature as a previous poster has said which it sounds like what you're doing?

I tended to do this 3 and 1 day before ovulation but am on cycle 6 so far and nothing so far!

Waiting - would love to but DH away for two weeks for work, part of the reason I'm trying this method...

Ah sorry, I can totally sympathise DH works away month on/month off and I had 40+ day cycles. Definitely frustrating when life gets in way of ttc.

Good luck!
