Waiting to try - am I doing right thing?

Hi all

I'm getting married in October and we've decided to wait to TTC until at least august.

The wait is driving me absolutely crazy but I know it's for the best as I already have my dress which I love, it's a close cut style so just couldn't get away with a bigger bump than that, it would mean a new dress which I really don't want.

I know I should be really excited for the wedding and it should be enough distraction for now but I honestly feel so miserable about it even though I know it's the right thing to do. I never thought it would be so hard.

I spoke to my sister about it and she has made me feel guilty that I can't just be satisfied with the wedding for now and we already have to have the next thing lined up.

Do you think theres a big chance I could have a fairly sizeable bump even if we try then?
Just need to vent really - sorry 😫

You also risk feeling horrific from morning sickness if you are 0-15/16 weeks pregnant. Me, I loved my wedding day, champagne, care free fun and dancing! Wouldn't want to jeopardise that for the sake of 4/5 months.

But there are others who would say otherwise.

Your call!!!!!

I know how you feel, we had decided to wait until after the wedding and I was sooo impatient. Depending on your current size you might show a bit. I couldn't fit in my jeans by 10-12 weeks as I was very slim to start with.

Perhaps try to focus on the fact that you're 100% going to feel well at your wedding and can eat/drink what you like. Again, between 6 and 16 weeks I felt absolutely vile most evenings and there's no way I could have enjoyed my wedding day.

Hang in there, it will come 'round quickly!

I'm afraid there's no way of knowing what your bump would be like! I got massive very quickly (I gained over a stone before I was even out of the 1st trimester and had a very clear bump by then!) but many of my friends hardly gained any weight at all and one of my friends actually lost a few pounds. There is just no way of knowing.

If you're set on the dress you have, you probably need to wait just in case. If you could be happy in another dress and are desperate to try now, maybe just get started as you may not even fall pregnant by the time of your wedding!

It's awkward as you have no clue how long it will take to get pregnant..

Age is a factor/ how old are you?

If you have time on the age front, it's probably best not to be pregnant on your wedding day I would say! BUT don't assume that as soon as you start trying it will happen. I made that mistake when I was first ttc.

These are all good points that are definitely making me think twice about trying at all before the wedding..

Age is on my side as I'll be 26 in July but I have PCOS so don't have many periods a year - probably only about 6 - which really makes me feel stressed and is probably making it worse, the more I miss the more I can't stop stressing.

I wish more than anything I could put it to the back of my mind and enjoy this time leading up to my wedding but I feel like a woman possessed!

Hey OP, we're in the same position! Getting married in September and wondering whether we stop trying for a few months or not. We've been trying for 6 with no success so if I don't fall this cycle, I think we are likely to wait until August to try. When I was pregnant with DD, I had a struggle fitting in my clothes at 5 weeks so I need to be careful...wedding dress shopping happens after next AF is due so I can plan accordingly.

I would really wait. The last thing you feel in the first trimester is beautiful or elegant. You could end up with hyperemesis and puking 20 times a day.
Also where are you going on honeymoon?is Zika a worry?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!

Yeah I know you're right - the wait is just killing me so much.
I wish I could just switch it off for a few months!

I know, ideally we should be waiting until the honeymoon and that was the original plan. Maybe once the wedding gets closer it will be easier to wait ☹️

We're going to Mauritius deliberately avoiding all Zika areas - it was surprisingly hard to find somewhere with good weather in October and not Zika!

I know the waiting is awful op especially once you have made such an important and exciting decision. But why not make it part of the excitement of the wedding build up? Like you prepare for a wedding with the planning and everything you could do same for ttc so you feel like you are 'doing something'? E.g start taking folic acid, you could come off birth control and use other methods til August so that your cycle has time to regulate and get to know your cycle e.g by notice cm, how long it is etc. Exercise to get fitter (goal of making sure wedding dress fits and getting healthier for pregnancy). Just an idea! I know what I'm like I can't just sit and wait have to be doing something 😂
