Ovulated but no AF

Im baffled. I came off the pill in July. Exactly 2 weeks later i had what im certain was EWCM and ovulation pains. Another 17 days later no period. Had a few mild period pains and the most sensitive nipples imaginable but not so much as a spot of blood. 2 negative pregnancy tests now. We have used condoms this month as i was waiting to have a period before properly ttc. We weren't too cautious with it but it would be akin to a miracle if i were pregnant with the contact we did have and besides tests are negative. How can i ovulate and not have a period?

Unfortunately the only way you know if you actually ovulated is by taking your basal temperature each day and only a slight shift in body temperature can confirm ovulation has occurred.

It is possible, as far as I'm aware, to get EWCM without actually ovulating. I track my cycle (but not taking temps) and I usually get EWCM 3 days before I get a positive OPK so they don't necessarily come hand in hand.

Thanks thats useful. Re ovulation - it was the pains as well though for about 3 days and (if i can read them right) i did have positive opk strips.

Positive OPKs do not conform ovulation either they can only detect if the body is preparing to ovulate but that doesn't mean ovulation takes place. OPKs detect the LSH (what triggers ovulation) but it is perfectly possible to have the surge and still not ovulate.

How many positive OPK strips did you have as usually the surge is very short lived. I know in the past I've gone from having a negative OPK to a positive one in the space of four hours and then it be negative again within the next 12 hours.

Some women carry on using OPKs after when they think they have ovulated and get another positive a few days after their initial positive and this can be a sign that despite the first positive they did not actually ovulate and so the second positive OPK is the body gearing up to try again. It might be worth you doing this if you are querying ovulation dates at all?

But saying all this, if you know your body quite well and had what you think to be ovulation pains and are pretty confident that you ovulated then I have no idea where your period is Grin

You should join the "Conception bus" forums as they are full of crazily excited women, endless shagging, symptom spotting and repeatedly peeing on OPKS and HPTS and then posting photos of our lines so we can all scrutinise and analyse them! It's lots of fun Grin Grin
