Hi everyone.

We have been TTC DC2 for over a year now. Took 2 years for DS - conceived first cycle after HSG.

Prior to the HSG I never had any positive indicators of ovulation using the prediction sticks.

I am wondering if anyone knows if HSG can actually bring on ovulation?
Cant seem to find the answer on google!

We are renovating a house which should be finished October and we plan on using some of the renovation funds to go private. Went to my GP in March and he was to refer me again but I have heard nothing.

I was exactly the same - although I hadn't used any ovulation sticks, I did have nothisterone to induce a bleed pre HSG and then got pregnant that cycle after the HSG after nearly a year of 60 day plus cycles.

I am now nearly ready to ttc #2 after a run in with some Breast Cancer and have already got nothisterone ready for when I break in my current treatment - hoping it will work its magic again!

I find its best to try and research the department you are being referred to and then contact them and see if your referral has been received. Being VERY nice on the phone always helps!!!

Good luck!

Thanks rodent.
Funny on the day of my first infertility consultant app I was also diagnosed with malignant melanoma skin cancer. Little did I know I would end up bring operated on in the early stages of pregnancy! Got the all clear one wk & found out I was pregnant the next.

Glad to hear you are recovering & planning the future.

I have regularish periods anywhere from 27 days to 37. A lot of PCOS symptoms without the cysts.

I will seek out my last referral letters for a number & see if I can talk nicely to them. Thanks again.

So I am currently in the 2WW following 1st round of clomid 50g.

Got my first ever positive opk which was hugely exciting! Side effects weren't too bad - hot flushes phew!

Have dtd every othe day with pressed so all thing crossed. Tried different positions etc just to make it all more fun.

Doc didn't think scans were necessary so just a waiting game!

Is there anyone else out there on a similar journey to me?

Hi op, I've recently had my referral and I'm phoning to book my hsg today. That's interesting that you got a bfp after having the hsg.....I hope that happens to me as we've been ttc for my first child for 20 months now. I don't seem to have any issues ovulating but I do also have pcos which gives me irregular cycles between 31 to 52 days although they've settled down a bit recently for some reason!

I wonder what the hsg does to cause a bfp? Does the dye blast the tubes clear?

Sounds similar to my first TTC journey! Has your OH had his semen analysis?

HSG acts as a deep clean of your tubes so can help the sperm reach the egg easier providing there are no other issues. I know a few from forums first time round TTC that conceived this way.

I hope it works for you! Its tough with irregular cycles, such a rollercoaster journey.

Please take pain killers before hand and ask for numbing gel to be applied before they start. Take a sanitary towel for after then go home & put your feet up!

I had a bad experience and when I put in an official complaint I discovered it was the first HSG doctor had done so I hope I was just unfortunate!

Yes dp's SA results were good. He already has two kids with his ex partner.

Yes the irregular cycles are a pain in the arse! I temp and track my cycles though which makes it a bit easier, after nearly two years of doing it I know my body well and know how to recognise when ov is due!

I called yesterday and I now have to wait for the X-ray dept to send me a letter. I didn't realise that you have to abstain from sex before though (duh!), the appointment could be any time in the next six weeks, but I'm on holiday next week and was looking forward to enjoying my time away with dp.....Confused

I would check with your GP to make sure your letter did get sent by them. When I got referred it was only a few weeks until I received my letter from the gynae unit. Although I guess it differs in different areas.....

Is it quite uncomfortable afterwards too then? I was assuming I'd go back to work after the appointment!

Hey
I posted about wanting to have an hsg test a couple of days ago . I have been ttc for 7 months now very regular cycles 28 to 29 days so i would like to check my tubes are actually open b cause i dont thibk i have an issue with ovulation . Thinking of going private for it but still need to get a gp referal i have a phone call with her on monday so i hope she can give me one so i can get it done !
2 of my friends have fallen pregnant right after an hsg test the doctor told them although there is no actual scientific evidence it is widely believed that hsg test increases tour chances (if it turns out you dont actually have blocked tubes ) it sorts of flushes the tubes in a way i guess
