Day 21 progesterone test confused!

We have been ttc for 20 months with no luck. I was referred to gynaecology and had my appointment today.

He has given me 2 forms for day 21 progesterone tests. I thought he said to have both tests on the same day. But now I have reached home and thought about it this does not make sense.

Both forms say the same so what's the point in taking two separate samples at the same time? I am wondering if I have misunderstood and I am supposed take two tests on two different cycles? I have an appointment to see him in 3 months time.

Hope that makes sense and has anybody had this test and can you advise me? Don't want to mess this up!

I took 2 tests but they werent on the same day. The first was on Day 3, that gives you your normal progesterone baseline.

The 2nd is 7 days post ovulation. That gives you how much its risen. It needs to be over 30 to know for sure that ovulation has taken place.

For some people with very regular cycles this will be on Day 21 but for a lot of people with long or irregular periods it wont be. I had long cycles so had to use ovulation prediction strips every day to pinpoint when my pre-ovulation surge took place and then I scheduled the docs appt for 7 days later.

Thanks for replying Annarose. He definitely said to take two tests on day 19 (instead of day 21 because I have a shorter cycle). I did a blood test while I was there so maybe that was for the baseline.
