LH and FSH Blood Tests - Results

Hi

I’m 37 yrs old and TTC.

I did blood tests (day 1 of cycle) for LH and FSH and waiting for results…

From UK internet search, I think its measured in IU/L ?

I found this information, is it correct?

FSH: under 6 is excellent, 6-9 is good, 9-10 fair, 10-13 diminished reserve, 13+ very hard to stimulate

LH: 4 - 8 IU/L being normal but then rising as the menopause approaches

I want to be prepared when doctor gives me results so I have an understanding..

Thanks for any advice!!!

Any FSH under 10 is ok. Even a little bit higher than this isn't a disaster, depending on your other results... Your FSH can fluctuate drastically from cycle to cycle so if it is high it might be worth getting it checked again.

If checking for diminished reserve then they usually also check your AMH level and your Antral follicle count (done via a scan around day 3 or 4 - this counts the follicles producing eggs on a natural cycle.) Push your GP for these tests too.

From what I remember you should get your bloods tested again on day 21 to check if you have ovulated that month.

When you get your results they will include the normal ranges.

Good luck with the TTC :) how long have you been trying?

Thanks Acer77!

I will ask my doctor re AMH level and Antral count.

We have been TTC for only 2 months.

Did the progesterone day 21 test and that came back as '36'.

Doctor said anything above 30 was good..

Well 2 months is very early days! Good to get tested anyway though as NHS waits can be a bit too long and best to know early on if there are any potential issues...
Cut down the caffeine and both cut down the alcohol - little things but worth throwing everything at it when you are in late 30s :) Not that age is an issue for everyone - it took 2 of my friends hardly any time to conceive at 37 and 39 but some of us take a lot longer!
Neither of you smoke do you? Stop if so...
Wishing you lots of luck!! :)
