8 days late & 2 negative tests?! Advice appreciated please :)

Hi,

I'm slightly confused at the moment...

My partner and I decided to start trying for a baby last month, we made sure we upped our game during my fertile days and ovulation. Usually my period is regular, I come on when expected and last the same amount of days each time, however, I am now 8 days late, but have had 2 negative pregnancy tests Confused

I've been having a lot of tension and achiness at the base of my spine, bad migraines, thick discharge, tiredness and I've been quite snappy and moody.

The reason I feel I might not be pregnant is because I don't have many of the common symptoms such as sickness, peeing more, sore breasts, change in appetite, spotting etc. and moreso because of the two negative tests, but then I'm confused as to why I've still not come on my period.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?
How long shall I wait to do my next test?
are any of my symptoms common early signs?

Thank you,

C x

Hi! I'm also in a similar situation. I'm 19 days past when I expected my period - same as you, normally regular and so far 5 negative tests. Went to the doctors last week, was swabbed, examined, nothing wrong there at all - she said it wouldn't be unusual for it just not to show up yet so try again in a week. Still absolutely nothing. I have some symptoms but all could easily be attributed to PMS - very bloated, dry, spotty skin and tons of discharge to the point I keep thinking I've come on! It's driving me absolutely crazy at the moment...really, I know it's too late to still be getting bfns and still be in with a chance but still can't let go of a little bit of hope! Sorry I can't offer any more advice - has anything different happens that might have delayed it? Stress/exercise/holiday, maybe? Have you thought about a docs appointment - if nothing else might put your mind at rest?

Ahh! you must be a lot more confused than I am then Smile

I have a friend who has just found out she is pregnant and 2 of her tests were negative and 2 a faint line, it's only when she did a clearblue digital that it actually confirmed she was pregnant, some people find out before their periods, so I'm just confused as to how after my period is due, there's the possibility of it still not being detected?! Confused

I have recently moved house 2 weeks ago, but honestly, it wasn't stressful at all, it was quick and easy and we had a lot of help and now we've moved in, I feel settled and relaxed. The only thing stressing me out is the fact I've come on and no idea if I'm pregnant or not. I have considered the Doctors, but I'm wondering if It's too soon and now I'm questioning when I was actually on, even though I record it every month.

Fingers crossed we have some sort of answer soon x

Yep it's killing me! And I think people giving me the whole 'well my sister's cousin's friend's mums didn't know until she was 20weeks' etc is making it worse! I think you're right, as soon as I stop worrying, my period will show up, but it's all I can think about!

Felt exactly the same about going to the doctor but she was really lovely about it and did lots of tests, told me to come back if it doesn't show up next month and she'll do bloods and request an ultrasound. Makes me feel better that something is being done I suppose...

I'm now 13 days late, still negative tests, however I now have achy boobs and I'm waking up with sickness which lasts all day. I keep getting sharp cramping pains to the right hand side, so I've made an appointment at my doctors, got a blood test on Monday, even if it turns out I'm not pregnant, I just want to double check everything's ok down there now Hmm The doctor's said its highly unlikely I am pregnant this late on due to the tests being negative, I'll keep you updated Smile

Sounds exactly like me, even down to the right hand side cramping pains...I have a blood test on Tuesday too! Good luck and hope we both have some answers soon! X

Hi Case26

I hope everything goes well tomorrow for you.

I did not get a a positive test until 14 day after I was due. That was after 3 negative tests. On the fourth test, I took it as a negative (no line) but then when I went back half an hour later there was a very faint line. I later bought a clear blue test (last one was Boots own) and it confirmed I was pregnant and 2-3 weeks. Talk about surprised! I have always known when I was pregnant on the day or early so this was a bit of a shocker.

Good luck tomorrow.

Same here! Had a little spotting last night, then started this morning, almost a month late. Really bizarre- hoping it will now just get back into a normal cycle. Glad you're alright too - what a weird few weeks!

Hi, I'm lurking on this board because we are starting to think about TTC dc#2. I saw this thread and I had to respond/offer hope. The situation you all describe is very similar to what happened to me. For 5 cycles in a row as soon as we started TTC, my period was late, by anything from 6 days - 17 days. I went to the gp a couple of times and got shooed away- she clearly thought I was being obsessive! I persisted as before TTC, I had been as regular as clockwork and I couldn't understand it. After almost 7 months (because of the extra late periods) I was referred for a scan at the hospital to check whether I had pcos / another issue and my husband and I decided to stop trying until then. We went to Mauritius and my period was due the day before we flew. It never arrived all holiday. My hospital scan was at 9 am the morning after we landed. I was at tescos at 7 am when it opened buying a test and could not believe it when I finally got my +. I have never been happier to cancel an appointment!! The purpose of this message is not to gloat but to say that this situation is not uncommon. I remain convinced that I had a series of chemical pregnancies but I don't think being as obsessed as I was about TTC helps either. As soon as I forgot about TTC, it happened. Being a mummy is the best thing ever and it will happen, in time. Baby dust to all of you. Xxx

So glad I have found this thread! I am five days late (due last Friday). Had a positive test on Friday morning, followed by negatives since. I don't have any symptoms other than feeling quite sick yesterday and today (but of course that could be unrelated).

I am now sure I am not pregnant but have never missed a period before and finding this very stressful being in limbo. I wouldn't be stressed if I wasn't pregnant - just want AF to arrive to I can be reassured!! Not sure I will manage 15 days like you guys have!

billy thanks for the reassurance! I've heard a lot of people say that as soon as you stop stressing about it it happens!

cam that's exactly what I felt like and I'm sure that worrying about it prolonged it...was 24 days late in the end, so pretty much skipped a whole month! Fingers crossed everything sorts itself out - and if it's much longer, maybe a docs appointment just to put your mind at rest?

Thanks Molly. I went to the doc today at lunchtime and she couldn't been less helpful. I've just ranted at my husband about it so will spare you all! But basically wish I didn't bother. Just wish the first test I took wasn't positive, at the back of my mind there is still this faint hope it was right. Annoyingly I thought I was quite chilled about this process three months in....but maybe not!

Just good to know you're not alone

Haha so did I - was determined to have a 'it will happen when it's right' attitude but my body's determined to make that very difficult! Maybe try and see someone else if nothing's developed in a week or so? In so sorry she was unhelpful - mine was brilliant and immediately sent me for lots of tests but that just made me worry more that she took it so seriously! Can't win :)
