Af arrived but still getting bfp?! Help!

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie (to mumsnet and ttc)! Really confused, second month ttc. First month no bfp but when af arrived I bled for 11 days and got a nasty uti. Told Dr as totally out of the ordinary for me (always a 4 day bleed). He said it might have been because of uti and not to worry.

This month I got bfp 4 days before I was due on. Really strong lines on test. Took 3 more tests over the next 3 days all bfp. Then started to bleed thurs evening (29 days), had a 'normal' af yesterday (some bright red/some dark), and some more dark today but much lighter (spotting). Took a test today and still bfp straight away. Am I pregnant or as af arrived as normal am I out? Should I go back to Dr or leave it a week and see if I'm still getting bfp. Advice gratefully received!!!

It could be an implantation bleed. They are very common. Is the flow like a normal period? Some people still have periods when pregnant too although this is less common.

It also could be a chemical pregnancy, where the egg fertilised but failed to implant.

I think you probably have to wait and see, perhaps test again in a few days time, other people might have better advice

Phone the early pregnancy unit at your hospital, they will likely give you a scan to see what is going on, you could be further along than you think and just missed the window for a bfp when testing before the long bleed.

Purple yes it is although I'm never very heavy anyway. Only difference this time is that I've not had any cramps...

Schro I'll give them a call on Monday morning.

Thanks both for responding! Finding this pretty stressful (along with many others I'm sure!).

Thanks Rubberduck. Really trying not to obsess over this but so hard when I've got a glimmer of hope. I'll call Dr in the morning. Live in a rural location and my little local hospital doesn't seem to have an epu. I'll have to go to nearest bigger town 30 miles away.

Took another test this morning. Still positive and boobs still really tender. Preparing for bad news but keeping fingers crossed! Normally so laid back about life but this has really thrown me... Guess when you really want something. Maybe someone reckoned I just needed a good lesson in patience! x

It could be a simple "break-through" bleed, that some women get. Bleeds at the usual expected times of your period. If you got a very strong positive pregnancy test 4 days before you expected your period, my guess would be that you got pregnant last cycle, and that you are now more like 7 or 8 weeks pregnant.

With a pregnancy test that strongly positive, and bleeding, you definitely should go to the early pregnancy unit for advice. There is little they can do one way or the other, but they might be able to check that the pregnancy is in the right place and progressing ok and even might be able to see where the bleeding is coming from.

Do let us know how you get on.

Went to docs this morning. She's referred me to epu but I'm waiting for them to call me with an appointment now... Still bleeding, still bfp. Dr said prob around a 50/50 chance of keeping the pregnancy... x

Wasn't good news. Knew before I went into epu as I'd had really bad cramps the day before and bleeding increased... Next time eh! x
