Me and my boyfriend were planning on having a baby as we both felt ready and it was the right time. I was going to start using ovulation sticks and read on the package that you're supposed to start using them on day 14 with a 28 day cycle.

My last period was on the 15th of March. On the 24th I had unprotected sex with an ex which my boyfriend now knows about. This was a mistake.

On the 27th I used the ovulation stick which was negative but me and my boyfriend decided to have sex anyway. I used the OP stick a day later which still came back negative.

On the 4th of April is when I got a very faint line on the OP stick. We had sex the day before.

My clearblue pregnancy test came back positive on the 14th of April stating I was 2-3 weeks pregnant on the test which on the leaflet states it means I was 3-4 weeks pregnant.

I'm just wondering if there is a possibility I could have ovulated earlier in my cycle instead because the pregnancy test came back positive quiet early or if the ovulation sticks were wrong?

That's a really tricky one...
I don't know how you could possibly find out until after the baby is born and you have a blood test.
They say sperm can live for up to 5 days and so it could be either partner.

P.S. A faint line doesn't mean you are ovulating. It has to be darker than the control line. Did you use the tests all the way thought from 27th - 4th? If so and no positive it may be that you ovulated early.

Your pregnancy will be dated from the first day of your last period until you have a dating scan around 12 weeks. Unless you're temperature charting, using opks throughout or have really obvious ovulation then it's hard to say what might have happened

I don't think there's any way to find out before the baby is born. The sticks show a faint line before and after ovulation so you just won't know...

Basically ovulation occurs 12-14 dates before your period is due on average but it can be earlier or later. And sperm can last up to 7 days in your body. Even without early ovulation it is technically possible for your bf or your ex to be the father if you ovulated on or before 1st April.

I think people generally start using OPKs from around CD10 so they can see the surge building.

IMO it's going to be too close call.. Ovulating early is a strong possibility, ex's sperm could have remained until you did ov, you could have ov'd late and conceived with boyfriend & just have really high levels for early pregnancy.

My friend had exactly the same situation last year, and through scans they were able to get a rough idea of conception but the date of conception was between the dates of both partners.. So they terminated because she didn't want to risk baby not being DHs (obviously a personal decision which was right for them).

Prenatal testing exists, but can't be done until second trimester (don't quite me on that though as I'm not 100%).

Best of luck whatever you decide.

You could have missed ovulation and that faint line on the 4th was the tail end. I assume this leaves you in a difficult position. When you see the midwives for the first time it's well worth talking to them about the situation and seeing if you can access any support for dealing with any issues. Fingers crossed it works out well for you
