So af arrived yesterday (bang on time) which means it is very nearly a year since DH and I started ttc without success (came off the pill feb 2014). So to get the ball rolling I have booked a doctors appointment for us which is in 2 weeks.

Can anyone tell me what to expect at the first appointment? I've gathered from the boards here that they'll probably book me in for day 3 and day 21 tests (really difficult as my cycles though they happen every month have varied from 28 to 36 days). What about DH, will they go straight to a sperm test for him?

I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating as I've been doing opks for the last 3 months which have been positive at the right time. When do you get to ultrasounds, looking for blockages etc?

If anyone else could talk me through their 'journey' I'd be really grateful!

Oh and our 'stats' if that helps are:

Me 27, normal bmi, non-smoker
DH 36, slightly overweight, non-smoker.

So no obvious age or other issues!

Hi 624

Yes you're right, day 3 and 21 bloods. I would recommend tracking your temperature, that way you can book your day 21 roughly a week after your temperature spike which should be a week before af due and the perfect time for 'day 21' you may also have smear/chlamidya/other infection tests as fertility clinics like all these rules out.

As for your dh, yes will be semen analysis. My dh had to repeat his as 1 part was a borderline result, but all find the second time. So many things can affect it.

Hope this helps, good luck. Xx

Thanks sammylou. I think I will start temping as a few others have suggested it too. It's helpful to know what to expect.

I find it really useful, and I prefer to see a temp drop to warn me af is on the way over the shock of finding out in the bathroom. X
