Ovulation test - first wee of the day or not?

Hi,

Just bought a box of ovulation test strips from Wilkos (I know, on a strict budget for January!) and the notes say to test between 10am - 8pm. I'm sure when I was using the Clear Blue ov tests a few years ago it said to test the strips in your first wee of the day. Confused!

Hi Frankie

I was advised on another thread not to use fmu for opks as it can give false positives.

Hope this helps, good luck! X

Why does 'fmu' and 'opks' mean? Thanks!

Hi frankie, opk = ovulation prediction kits, fmu = first morning urine.

I have used a combination of Internet cheapies and clear blue digital. The cb ones say fmu is fine but the ics specifically say not to use it because the hormone they detect is not produced by your body first thing in the morning. I've been testing when I get home from work every evening.

Brilliant - thanks both! I am bound to forget to do it first thing anyway in my morning haze so I'm glad I can do it later.

Does anyone know why clear blue dual hormone says to use fmu if LH isn't produced until mid morning?

I was told the opposite. That LH is always in your system but stronger in the mornings so opks can give false positives if you test then.
I haven't heard the info about it not being produced first thing...

These are the ics I used:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001G7STT0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1420738980&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41Dw6QoAk5L&ref=plSrch&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

The instructions (which are in that link) say do not use fmu as your body produces LH in the morning so it won't show up first thing. No idea how accurate that statement is ... like I said above I really didn't get on with those tests anyway so switched to cb.

I always used to do mine at about 7pm when I got in from work. That's when I got the strongest positives. I always thought you should test between 10am and 8pm too but during the day at work I always have tea or water so never had 2 hours of undiluted urine!
