Drinking whilst TTC

Just wondering if anyone drank whilst TTC. I have been fairly careful but interested in what others do.

I still had a couple of glasses most nights just to keep me sane and it got me in the mood But I know others who give up completely. If it had take longer than 2/3 months to get preggers I would have given up as I've heard it can help.

Supposedly both of you are advised to give up to optimise your chances. I never quite managed this though - DD was conceived in a haze of drink, and with this one (I am 9 weeks PG) I cut down but not out. DH didn't really cut down at all, just ate lots of food containing zinc. For me it was a Q of balance - I enjoyed the drink but was prepared to cut down (or eventually out) to help my chances 2nd time round. Good luck!

I think it depends how long you have been trying. I have been very lucky in the past and conceived rather easily, so I didn't change my habits at all. Although I guess like the others have said, if I had been trying a while I would definately have reviewed the drink intake! I think, as well, that the odd glass or two of wine can actually be quite therapeutic, and can help you destress.

Good friend conceived after a day going around Hunter Valley winerys - not sure if DD was conceived in same circumstances - we haven't quite identified the exact date but I'm sure there was drink involved as we were on holiday!

Hello ladies

I read somewhere that the sperm that men use today was created 3 months ago and that alcohol can affect sperm production - this is not good news for me as DH had about 4 stag nights before our wedding 3 months ago!

I have not cut alcohol out but have tried to cut down for health reasons broadly and to try and lose weight. Like you all, if it takes me longer than a few more months to conceive, I will cut it out totally.

I did read that it is better to drink wine than spirits because spirits get into your blood stream quicker and therefore have more of an impact on your body.

I went to my dr when I found out I was pg the first time cos I had been drinking and I was worried

he said if there was no alcohol he would deal with far less pregnancies

I have cut down from every night to just a glass or two at the weekends. Not helping so far though!

Cappacinno, what your doctor said has made me giggle! I wonder if there are any statistics out about how many pregnancies are a direct result of a few too many?!?!
