... how did they work out your dates?

I stopped taking my pill on 1st March this year in anticipation of starting TTC, still no AF. Cheapy internet ovulation test strips say no ovulation every day last week and today.

DH and I have been abstaining since 1st March whilst waiting for AF to arrive, but to be honest it's becoming very difficult not to give in to temptation Blush. I thought I needed a period for working out due date etc, but if we say made the most of shagged over Easter weekend and were lucky enough to get pg how would they work it out? I didn't have periods whilst on my pill so if they ask me when my last period was I'd say at least 18 months ago!

I fell pregnant while on the Pill, I worked out dates using a ClearBlue Digital test, and then by scan dates. Doctors can also do a blood test to measure levels... Enjoy your easter weekend Wink

I haven't fallen pregnant on the pill but just wanted to say: don't abstain from sex just to get your dates perfect! Use a CB digi like FaceCake said and just add 2 weeks onto the number of weeks since conception. So absolutely get shagging now! And keep a look out for any fertile cm - this was how I knew I was ovulating again after coming off the pill (And it took me 4 months to ovulate post bc, which is why I'm urging you not to abstain).

They'll be able to date your pg at your '12wk' scan anyway, so if you know vaguely when you conceived, ie are taking regular pg tests until you conceive, the scanner will tell you how many weeks exactly you are.

Thanks for the replies... I know it would be really lucky if we fell pg straight away but I'm just trying to work out rough dates as we have some European flights booked later this year and I need to ensure I'm under 28 weeks at the time we go!

I fell pregnant about 6 weeks after stopping the pill. Never had AF at all. Doctor guessed the dates and this was amended at first scan. We originally went for the 12 week scan only to be told we were only 8 weeks along! But no need to abstain, you don't really need to know a correct due date straight away.

I fell pg while using the nuvaring, there was a bit of a panic as we had no idea when dates could be, it had to be worked out using the dating scan.

Ended up having to have a second scan 2 weeks later as I turned out to only be 9 weeks at the first one!

So how do they date you from the scan then is it down to measurements?

I fell pregnant on the pill, was sent for a scan to find my dates.

I stopped microgynon and got pregnant immediately, no period in between. I assumed I ovulated around 14 days after withdrawal bleed started and dates confirmed this. It was a bit of an anticlimax, thought I would be 'trying' for ages!

Measurements, yes. It's quite mad actually as they don't just date you to the week or month, they date you to the day.
