When will a bump appear? How early can we start ttc?

Hi everyone,

I am due to get married the first weekend in April and me and dp have started really chatting about when to start trying.
Originally we were going to wait until after the wedding but are both very excited and know it can take a long time for a bfp so are wondering if we can start sooner (we even go to NY just after valentines which could be a great opportunity as we will be relaxed etc and our dog wont be around!)
I have no issues with being pregnant on my wedding day, if it were to happen that fast (which is unlikely) as I dont really drink anyway.
My only thing is that I don't want to be visibly pregnant on my wedding day so no bump! (I just dont want to worry about altering the dress etc and want to be able to tell people instead of them guessing)
I was just wondering when peoples bumps started to get obvious? And when you would start ttc if u were me.
I am fairly slender but get a bit of a bloated stomach throughout the day as i eat!

Any thoughts would be great as we really dont know who else to ask.

Xx

Hi frizz, I didn't get a bump till 20 weeks, but I did have all day/all night vomiting and nausea from 6 weeks (which only stopped at 6 months!)

Exciting times!
I'd start trying a couple of weeks before or wait until the honeymoon, myself, as I'm currently 5 weeks and feeling very bloated and gassy. Some days I'm really big! But this is my second and some people don't show til 20 weeks.

If you have strong tummy muscles I think it usually takes longer to show.

Any history of twins in your family?
What style is your dress? Some styles would show the earliest of bumps, some would cover a 3-4month bump, maybe more in some people.

Everybody's different. I am petite and started showing at about 15 weeks. Another friend of mine married when she was about 3 months pregnant and has the tiniest tiniest baby bump in her pictures! So, generally speaking- think you'll be okay until about 3 months, but may put on a few pounds. Only thing to really keep in mind is how tiring your first trimester can be (with wedding planning this may be an issue), and how you'll cope if you are very queasy etc!

It's up to you but bear in mind that early pregnancy can be horrendous and you're getting married in only four months. That means your wedding is quite likely to fall in your first trimester.

Personally I would wait till after the wedding. The advantages are that you can drink if you want to at the wedding (and any hen night) and you can start taking your pregnancy vitamins now to make sure you're in tip-top condition to conceive.

My friend got married at 10 weeks pregnant - she missed the whole reception as she had such bad morning sickness. She is now planning a second wedding blessing as she feels she missed out so much. On the other hand, another friend was fine and enjoyed herself immensely while pregnant at her wedding.

The problem is you don't know what you will feel like. I felt crappy in my first trimester with both pregnancies - I could have got married but I felt hormonal and crazy, my skin and hair looked awful....all the things you don't want when people are taking pictures of you!

But obviously it is your choice. You might conceive immediately or not for a while so it's up to you.

I agree. The problem is, you don't know how you'll feel. I was so knackered for the first 3 months. That I was going to bed at 7pm. I was hormonal, grumpy, and snappy.

My cousin was in and out of hospital with severe morning sickness.

Of course, you may be absolutely fine, but personally, I'd go for the honeymoon option. Grin

I get hideously bloated in early pregnancy - am normally a slim size 10 but my first pg symptom even before bfp is a stomach like a football (I'm currently pregnant for the third time and with this one and the last one I knew the test would be positive from the bloating). It then doesn't go away until about 14 weeks, by which point I've got an actual baby bump anyway...so if you end up like me there's no way you'll be able to hide it. Plus I get really bad skin in the first trimester and break out in awful spots, which isn't a great bridal l

Honestly, I would focus on your wedding and ttc on your honeymoon.

Agree with previous posters - I had no ms at all when pg but I've never ever EVER been that tired. I actually thought I might die if I didn't sleep (for at least 14 hours a day!) defo would not have enjoyed a wedding!
If I were you I'd definitely wait - tbh a bump could well e the least of your worries! Of course you could also be totally fine and dandy but the problem is you just don't know and you really don't want anything to detract from your big day.

It's only 4 months... And also you'll then have two separate very exciting things happening rather than lumping them together Grin

I agree with the above. I'm a size 12 usually and needed maternity wear for the bloat from 8-9 weeks with dc1.
More important though is how you feel. With dc1 I had awful morning sickness (and that's very misnamed because its all day and all night) from 6 weeks, this time from 4 weeks. I was also completely flattened by the exhaustion that has no comparison til you've been through it, falling asleep on the sofa at 6pm and desperate for more rest. Add to that mood fluctuations that make pmt look like picnic. You could breeze through pregnancy or you cold, as many women do, find it all extremely challenging.
I'd definitely wait for your honeymoon. Use these few months to get healthy, take 3 months worth of prenatal vits (DP too) and maybe get to know your cycle a bit.
Very best of luck whichever you decide.

My last pg I went up 2 cup sizes by seven weeks along. I was also bloated as my digestive system seemed to come to a near halt.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
Neither me or dp really had anyone who we could ask about such things.
I think after all everyones thoughts it is def better to leave it until the wedding arrives.
I can be on countdown to the wedding and ttc.
Have just started us both of conception vitamins and am spending the 1st 2 months of this year getting my fitness up to scratch so hopefully I can be as prepared as possible.
I am a big planner so ttc is going to be very tough indeed as i dont like not being able to plan exactly what is happening.

Def agree with the other posters about getting fit and healthy before you start trying. Good luck!

Plus you never know about conception so TTC might not take long. My SIL's sister took two years to conceive so my SIL was convinced it would take ages. She started on her wedding night - yup, her DS is a honeymoon baby.

It took me three years and fertility treatment to have DS1. DS2 was conceived during a one-time quickie on a month when DH and I saw each other once. Grin
